Barton L (Bart) Bethers, of Pleasant View, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2017 surrounded by his family at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home. He was born March 28, 1926 in Daniel, Utah to Leonard and Stella (McDonald) Bethers. Bart grew up in Heber Valley, joining the Navy before graduating from Wasatch High School, excited to wear the classy Navy uniform. He trained to fly in the Navy Air Corp near the end of World War II, returning to graduate after the war from Utah State University, excelling in agriculture and Track.

After several years working in land management, he was called to serve an LDS mission in the Pacific Northwest States. This began a lifetime of service in the LDS Church, including service as high counselor, bishop, stake presidency counselor, and patriarch, touching literally thousands of others who always left as "best friends".

He met Jean Murdock, the love of his life, at a church social in Bountiful. The couple soon welcomed children into a warm and inviting family. Bart worked in sales, bringing his personal warmth and ability to create instant friends to several companies until embarking on his own entrepreneurial career with several businesses, including Rayne soft water service, DART surf boards and a construction company. Taking a break from work, Bart returned to Utah State University to receive a PhD in botany in 1973. With his passion for botany and talent for sales, he raised the capital, built the greenhouses and marketed long stem roses for Desarose, his final business, until his retirement.

Bart was quick to share a kind word, a smile, a laugh, or a dozen roses with everyone. He loved to garden, pick fruit from his orchard, ride his horse Pepper to fish and hunt, golf with friends, and above everything – to share his love and time with family. His cheerful personality and strength of testimony will long be remembered.

He is survived by his wife Jean; children Carol Jean Bethers, Alan (Vilate) Bethers, Julie (Mark) Sheanshang, Brian (Heidi) Bethers, Linda (Bob) Rowe, and Amy Jo Wangsgard; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Stella, and his siblings, LaDene, Iris, Neil, and Eleanor.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Pleasant View 12th Ward Chapel, 900 West Pleasant View Drive, Pleasant View, Utah.
