Delbert (Bert) Earl Rhees
September 12, 1930 - January 9, 2018
Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Patriarch, and friend, returned home to his loving Heavenly Father and family on Tuesday January 9, 2018.
Delbert Earl Rhees was born on September 12, 1930 in Ogden, Utah, to Earl John Rhees and Ruth Cragun Rhees.
He grew up on a dairy farm in Pleasant View, Utah, where he learned the value of hard work and to truly love the outdoors. He loved to travel and was inspired by God’s wonderful creations. He especially loved the mountains and the red rock hills of Southern Utah. Bert loved his country and was proud to serve in the United States Navy as a Submariner and in the Navy Reserve. He was also proud to serve his Heavenly Father as an LDS Missionary in Brazil.
Bert met his sweetheart, Ovie Hutchison, and in his words “convinced her to marry” him. They were sealed to each other on November 14, 1955 in the Logan Utah Temple.
He was a sweet and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He and Ovie spent 41 wonderful years together, raising their four amazing children and enjoying their grandchildren until her death from illness in 1996. Bert met Marilyn Friedli while working in the Ogden Utah Temple and they were married on July 20, 1996. He spent 21 beautiful years loving her and her family. They enjoyed traveling and making many special memories including their experiences as LDS missionaries in the Wyoming Sixth Crossing Handcart Visitor Center Mission.
Bert faithfully served in many callings and capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He especially loved serving as a Stake Patriarch and felt honored to give many Patriarchal Blessings. One of his greatest honors was providing blessings to many of his grandchildren. His commitment and faith in our Heavenly Father and the gospel inspired all who came in contact with him. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Rhees; Children: Jeffrey (Nicole) Rhees, Timothy (Sarah) Rhees, Todd (Stephanie) Rhees, and Julie (Lance) Jackson; Step-Children: Steve (Vicki) Friedli, Dorothy (Kay) Nielsen, Doug (Vicki) Friedli, Jolynne (Bruce) Barnes, and Julie Wecker (Ben) Harding; Siblings: Robert Rhees, John Rhees, Marian Findlay, Sally Shaw, Carol Rhees, and Linda Rhees; 48 Grandchildren and 47 Great-Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ovie Hutchison Rhees; Parents: Earl John and Ruth Cragun Rhees; Siblings: Larry Rhees, Steve Rhees, and RuthAnn Larson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 11 AM at the Roy Utah Midland Stake Center, 3649 W 4800 S, Roy. Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 PM at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S 1900 W, Roy and Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 AM at the church.
