DRAPER --Douglas Ralph Umbreit, at the age of 62, returned to his Heavenly Father on August 24, 2011. He passed away in London, UK after being critically ill for 8 days during one of his many adventures around the world with his wife Kathy. Doug was born in Spokane, Washington to Ralph and Maureen Umbreit on April 19, 1949. He went to BYU after high school and graduated from the BYU Law School Charter Class in 1976. He loved sports, both playing and watching. He was a TRUE BLUE BYU Fan; living and dying with each BYU basketball and football game. He loved sports so much that you could always find him absorbed in two or three sporting events simultaneously. He worked for First American Title Company for most of his career, and retired 5 years ago from the Talon Group. Doug served an LDS mission to Frankfurt, Germany at the age of 19 and continued church service throughout his life. His callings included being the First Councilor to a Bishopric, serving on the High Council, as well as callings in the High Priest Group leadership. To conclude his service on this earth, he was blessed with his favorite position as an ordinance worker in the Draper Temple, where he was currently Assistant Coordinator. Doug is survived by his wife Kathy, a son Matthew D. Umbreit, a daughter Melissa U. Meru, a son-in-law Michael C. Meru, and his sweet granddaughter Elle Meru. Doug was not only an educated man through institution, but continued his education through travel and literature, specifically, the scriptures, books on theology, different cultures as well as periodicals like the newspaper and sports illustrated. Each trip he planned included extensive research and study of histories and cultures of the countries he visited. Doug was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and respected by all who knew him.
