Obituary

Erle Clair Oman

Erle Clair Oman, better known as Clair, died Friday afternoon, January 6, 2017, at the age of 69. Born to Hannah and Clarence Oman, Clair undoubtedly had a recalcitrant streak, but it was driven by boundless curiosity and determination rather simple contrariness.

He served his country in Korea, beginning in 1968, as a part of the military police. After his tour, he enrolled at Utah State University and later graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting. Not long after that, he met Barbara Stansfield, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple on June 8, 1973.

Together they raised five daughters; though many remarked that a life surrounded by so many women must have been a challenge, Clair dearly loved each of his daughters, and taking them camping, helping them change their cars' oil, and cooking together were some his favorite things to do. Clair always felt that family was paramount, and he took great joy in talking and spending time with his siblings, his in-laws, and, of course, his children and grandchildren. Only Clair's faith was as important to him as his family: he served the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many capacities, including as a Bishop, and possessed an unfaltering testimony of the Gospel.

Clair continually strove for self-reliance and truly enjoyed investigating and implementing his own solutions to household and mechanical problems. This ingenuity and Clair's cheerful application of it is one of the many things that made him a remarkable husband, father, and friend: he was happy to help with many tasks and responsibilities, and even happier to teach you how to do it yourself.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017, at noon at the church located at 900 W Pleasant View Drive in Pleasant View, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the services, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Interment will take place the following day, Friday, January 13, 2017, in Mount Pleasant, Utah at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, fellow mourners donate to the Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Foundation (https://www.alpha1.org/How-to-Help/Help-Raise-Funds/Donate), in the hopes that future sufferers of the disease will not have to experience the circumscription of life that Clair did.
