Joyce Nicholas Cook was born June 14, 1926 to John Allen and Priscilla Stratford Nicholas. She was raised in Willard, Utah, her childhood filled with dogs, horses, and farming along-side her dad. Joyce was lucky enough to meet her sweetheart, Sid Cook, in the first grade. He fell in love with the pretty girl with blond hair at the age of 6. Both attended Box Elder High where Joyce was a student body officer.
Following the hardships of Sid serving in the Navy during WWII, the two married and had two daughters, Sidney Joyce (Stevenson) and Susan Jane (Stoddard), whom they raised in Ogden, Utah, in the Ogden 7th ward.
The childhood love of dogs did not end for Joyce as she grew up. Joyce’s grand-daughter, Jane Stevenson, named a dog “Sam” from a favorite book and from then on Joyce and Sid became known as Grandma and Grandpa Sam.
Joyce was a master gardener and cultivated the most beautiful yard and garden. She loved flowers and enjoyed spending days clipping her roses and tending to her plants.
Joyce loved her daughters and their children and tried to be an active part in their lives. Despite grandkids being in different parts of the country, Joyce was attentive and was known to surprise them with a dollar in the mail and cards for every holiday. She loved her family fiercely.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Sid Cook, her parents John Allen and Priscilla Nicholas, Beverley Nicholas Nelson (sister), and Jane Stevenson (grand-daughter). She is survived by Frances Nicholas Andersen (sister), Sidney Cook Stevenson (Richard Stevenson), Susan Cook Stoddard (Doug Stoddard), six grandchildren Brooks Stevenson, Jill (Stoddard) Brown, Jonathan Stoddard, Erin (Stevenson) Deller, Patrick Stoddard, and Bryce Stevenson, and soon-to-be 12 great grandchildren, Miles Persinger, Ellie (Stevenson) Oram, Isabel Deller, Max Deller, Peter Stevenson, Luke Deller, Molly Stevenson, Emma Brown, Mia & Adam Stoddard, Adaleigh Brown, and baby Stoddard coming soon.
