Obituary

Lorenzo Reese Norr
1928 ~ 2017

Lorenzo Reese Norr, age 88, passed away on January 5, 2017, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Reese was born to Ren and Verna Norr on December 22, 1928. He had four older sisters, so when Reese arrived, Ren threw his hat in the air, and exclaimed, "It's a Boy!". He has the distinction of being the only child in the family born in a hospital. At an early age, he was nicknamed Bud. Three years later another son joined the family, so Bud always had a playmate.
Reese was born and raised in Brigham City and was always proud of his pioneer ancestors, who were among the first settlers of Brigham. He attended grade school at Lincoln Elementary, across the street from his home. He enjoyed going home for lunch, where his mother always had a sandwich made with thick slices of homemade bread ready for him. Recess was filled with games like Pomp, Kick the Can or Run Fox Run. He attended Box Elder High School, graduating in 1947. After graduation, he attended college for a short time and then joined the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict.
While serving in the Air Force, Reese attended Administrative School and became a clerk typist. His commander awarded him "Airman of the Year". He enjoyed serving, but whenever he had leave, he hitched a ride back home.
Reese served an LDS mission to the Great Lakes Mission, which included Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. He served as mission secretary for one year. His duties included driving the mission president, his wife, and any visiting church authorities throughout the mission. They were experiences he always treasured.
Upon his return, he married Deaun John in the Logan Temple on October 29, 1954. He and Deaun raised two daughters and one son. The family lived in Ogden and Roy, Utah, for 12 years and Auburn, Washington, for 32 years.
His jobs included thinning sugar beets, setting up pins at the bowling alley, engineer work at Thiokol and Boeing, and being a Seattle tour bus driver (his fun job).
Reese loved hunting, fishing, gardening, family history, friends, walking, Seahawk football, his family, and his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Reese served in many church callings, including Scoutmaster, Sunday School, Bishopric and other Priesthood callings. He loved serving a Family History Mission with Deaun. They served at the Thomas Kane Chapel in Kane, Pennsylvania, where they helped others with their family history and Reese gave tours of the historical church.
After Deaun passed away, Reese moved back to Brigham and married Betty John. She passed away two years ago.
Reese is survived by his children, Cynde Norr, Auburn, WA; Jan (Marc) Call, Cottonwood Heights, UT; Kerry (Wendy) Norr, Lake Tapps, WA; grandchildren, Marci, Merideth (Landon), Meryl, Taylor, Jordan, Megan; great-grandchildren, Owen, Luke, Benson; sister, Dora Mae Michael and brother James Norr.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at Brigham City 3rd Ward Chapel, 203 North 200 West. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Burial will be at the Brigham City Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff of Canyon Creek Care Center for their loving and compassionate care.
Gee Whiz, we're going to miss you.
