After a long and exceptionally valiant battle with cancer, Susan Florence Woodmancy passed away at her home in Brigham City Monday evening, May 15, 2017. Gathered with her were her beloved husband, Dick, and daughters Paulette Lee and Wendy Lynn Davis.
Born on July 22, 1944 to Norman R. and Florence J. Petersen, she was a life-long resident of Brigham City, where she was educated at Central Elementary, Box Elder Junior High, and Box Elder High School from which she graduated. She immediately enrolled in Steven Henagar's Business College from which she was hired in a life-long position with the Internal Revenue Service in Ogden.
With 27 years of service, Sue retired from the IRS but found retirement left her without the daily contact with friends and associates she had so enjoyed. She was quickly hired by the Brigham City K-Mart store before another attempt at retirement was made. She was soon filling empty hours working for Walmart, from which she finally retired after five more years of work.
Though her life was shortened by cancer, it was happy and meaningful. Sue married Dave Conger, and together they had two daughters, Paulette and Wendy Lynn. Following their divorce, she later met and married Dick Woodmancy with whom she spent forty-eight wonderful years. They remained sweethearts through every experience life could render, and Dick became a father to Paulette and Wendy and the heritage that would follow. Dick would render unconditional service and love to his sweetheart especially during the final seven years of her life when her cancer was first diagnosed. Ever at his side and their mother's were these two magnificent daughters whose vigil and exceptional care told of their devotion to their mother.
Sue's legacy is that of a close, loving husband, two remarkable daughters, and the grandchildren that filled each day with untold happiness. They were her world—the very center and focus of most conversations. She was a woman without guile and spent time in building individuals rather than finding fault in one's personal story. She honored her strong religious heritage and called upon friends and family to remember her in their prayers. Her faith was firm and noble. As the cancer increased its grip against her physically, she would not allow it to dull her positive and noble spirit. We rejoice that she will be ever with us as the mothering, watchful guardian she was in life.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Norman R. and Florence J. Petersen. Sue is survived by her husband, Dick; daughters Paulette Lee and Wendy Lynn (Gary) Davis; her brother, Robert (Goldene) Petersen of Brigham City; and Kathleen (Ronald) Clark of Orem, with eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, Utah.
