Stephen L. Miller passed away Nov. 8, 2017, at the age of 92 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 21, 1925, in Logan, to Otto V. and Attella Larsen Miller. He was raised and attended school in Weston, Idaho.

In January 1945, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was trained as a member of the Mounted Calvary at Fort Riley, Kan. Two weeks before shipping out to Italy, the Armistice was signed. He was then sent to Japan, where he helped construct the Haneda Airstrip.

After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home in October 1946. On Nov. 20, 1946, he married his waiting sweetheart Dorothy Perkins in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and spent 69 wonderful years together before her passing on Jan. 29, 2016.

Most of his professional life was spent as a heavy equipment operator using the training and skills he received while serving his country in Japan.

Stephen was a member of the LDS church and served in many positions over the years. He was an Elders quorum president, taught Family Relations Courses with his wife Dorothy, served in two bishoprics as a counselor for 10 years, served in the stake YMMIA board for 8 years and has always been a very dedicated home teacher.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, RV traveling, yard work, woodworking and visiting with neighbors as he and his wife took their daily walks.

Stephen was such a great person. He was a sweet, loving family man who was brave, strong, tough when he needed to be, caring and humble. He was always there when anyone, family, friend or stranger needed him. His attitude was always “what can I do to help you and when do you want me there?” He was also an unabashed corn-ball!

He is survived by his children; Bruce Miller, Lyle (Judy Palmer) Miller, Ann Marie (Rich) Rasmussen, and Stephanie (Randy) Clifton; one sister, Naomi Eilers; two brothers, Rollo Miller, Elias Miller; 18 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Kenny; granddaughter, Nanette Jones; two daughters-in-law, Roxanne Miller, Lynette Groneman, two sisters; and five brothers.

The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Bristol Hospice and George E. Whalen Veterans Home for their love and care of our father.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Riverside Ward, 4575 W 2125 N, Plain City. A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ogden Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., and prior to services on Friday from 9:40 to 10:40 at the church.
Interment at Plain City Cemetery

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in his name to Primary Children’s Hospital or an Alzheimer Foundation.
