Obituary

Phillipians 1:21. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

John Daniel Pitcher, age 87, died December 5, 2017, due to complications from metastatic melanoma. He was born on August 28, 1930, to Charles Hyrum Pitcher and Hazel Sibley Pitcher in his grandparents’ farm house in Nichols, NY, on his brother Ben's second birthday.

He Joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950. Married Shirley Irene Dalbey on December 21, 1951. Served as an MP in Korea, and was released from the Air Force in 1954.
Thank you, God, for Dan's love for deserts, mountains, seas and forests. Thank you for his love of God's world. He grew many types of roses and raised many types of quail.

He entered into a life-long love of rocks, minerals and everything about them from hunting, digging, polishing and mounting them in findings. He was so knowledgeable about rocks and where to find them. He was also fascinated by the history of bottles and found antique bottles all over Utah, Nevada and Idaho.

He also loved crafting wood and made many crosses. Many eight-foot crosses hang in churches throughout Ogden, Utah.

He is survived by: His wife, Shirley; and their three children: William David (Valerie Clear), Charles Gifford (Anastasia Serrano) and Susan Marie (Steven Stoneking). His grandchildren: John Paul, David James, Julie Ilene, Magdelena Silvia, Debra Stephanie, Dorcas Ruth, Daniel Jacob, Sarah Elizabeth, and Teresa Marie. His great-grandchildren: Julia, Lilly, Jake, Shaylee, Adalee, Samuel, Finnagan and Hazel. He is also survived by a brother, Ben; and his children: Daniel, Dana, Kenneth, Jeffrey, Carol and Greg. We are honored that Dana will be here to represent Ben's family at the funeral. He is preceded in death by a brother, James Luke; and William's first wife, Patricia Ilene.

Thank you God, for those who cared for Dan, our church, Ascension Lutheran, who gave many blessings and helped us move to Salt Lake City, UT; for Summit Assisted Living, Brighton Home Health and Hospice and for the various physicians, Dr. Richard Frame of Utah Cancer Specialists and Dr. Jeffrey Tingey of Intermountain Healthcare at Taylorsville.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to either Ascension Lutheran Church or The Utah Cancer Foundation.

Rest in Peace, my dear husband of almost 66 years. We will be celebrating our next anniversary on December 21 and your first Christmas with Our Lord in Heaven.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1105 N. Washington Blvd., Ogden, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.

Arrangements entrusted to Myers Ogden Mortuary.
