Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all in need, Marilyn Swaner Burton passed away surrounded by loved ones and was reunited with her eternal companion on December 24. She was born on December 13, 1936 to Eugene Svard Swaner and Mary Isabelle Jones. Marilyn’s greatest accomplishments on this earth were being a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, caregiver, gospel teacher, missionary and a faithful daughter of her Heavenly Father.

Marilyn grew up in Ogden Utah, where she attended Dee Elementary School, Mount Fort Jr. High School, Ogden High School and Weber State College. She was a lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who actively studied and shared the gospel.

While attending Weber State College, Marilyn met Owen Jack Burton, a recent convert. Owen grew to have an eternal love of the gospel of Jesus Christ and of Marilyn. They were married in the Logan Temple on July 18, 1956. The couple was blessed with three sons and a daughter: Jeffrey, Paula, Scott and Eric. After her husband’s death in 1972, Marilyn completed her nursing degree at Weber State College where she graduated top of her class. Marilyn worked at McKay Dee Hospital on the OB ward and as a head nurse at several local nursing homes.

Other accomplishments include sending all four of her children on LDS missions, teaching gospel doctrine classes, serving as a full time senior missionary in Lansing, Michigan and as a service missionary in the Ogden East Stake. Her other loves included the view of Ogden Valley from her home of 40 years, cooking, hiking, full moons, and spending time with her siblings, children, and grandchildren.

Marilyn is survived by her four children, 19 of her 20 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Marilyn is preceded in death by three of her siblings Allan, Roger, and Karen Reed. Her only surviving sibling Geneal Kishigian resides in Georgia.
