Alan Delon Haney, 88 passed away January 26, 2023, at his son and daughters, home in Roy. He was born Feb. 15, 1934, in Ogden Utah to Egbert H. Haney and Carmen Dean Doney.
Al was the second oldest of ten kids. He spent his first eleven years in Ogden before his family moved near Adrian, Oregon and started farming. Growing up on a farm, he was taught how to work hard. He graduated from Adrian High School and a week later moved back to Utah. Al’s father passed away and he was called home to help run the family farm. During this time, he met the woman who would one day be his wife on a double date.
Al married Pearl Ann Gebhart on March 5,1955, in Nyssa, Oregon. They were later sealed together in the Temple. They had four children: Chris, Cathy, Kim and Scott. They lived in and around Caldwell, Idaho.
Al later apprenticed and became a Brick mason while they raised their family. After several years, he started his own masonry company with his brother. Building and the economy turned bad, and it wasn’t long before he moved his family to Utah for better work. Soon after moving, he started working for Buxton masonry and for years he helped to build many schools and buildings up and down the Wasatch front.
In 1984, Al talked Pearl into starting a new venture, Delany’s Sandwich Villa in the Ogden City mall. It was so successful it spawned another in the Layton Hills mall. Pearl’s health turned for the worst and she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought hard for several years but passed away on May 27, 1992. They were able to share 38 wonderful years together. Six months later Al was introduced to Joy Conatser. After a few dates he was able to convince her that he was the man she had been waiting for. They were married a few months later, on April 27, 1993. With Joy, Al acquired another family who he cared for and helped Joy look after during their 27 years of marriage. With more kids and grandkids there was always some activity going on for them to go to and show their support for their families. Joy was the owner of Joy’s beauty salon in Roy and a few years after they were married, they opened another very successful salon that Al helped her run for years until her death from Congestive heart disease on Oct 31, 2020.
For the second time in his life, Al was broken hearted. Al took care of both of his wives when they were sick. He was an excellent care giver. He said he always felt blessed that he was able to have two great women in his life. Caring for Joy had taken its toll and shortly after her passing, he had a couple small heart attacks along with several other sicknesses during his last two years.
He leaves behind 4 children: Chris Kinney, Cathy Matheney, Kim Wilson, Scott (Cindy) Haney; 4 stepchildren, 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and five brothers and sisters.
