Mary Enniss Baird

Mary Enniss Baird, 96, passed away March 30, 2024. She was born to Annie Durant Huff and Willard Boulter Enniss on January 5, 1928 in Draper, Utah. She attended Draper Elementary, Draper Park Middle School, Jordan High School, Excelsis Beauty School, and BYU.

She was eternally sealed to her husband, Elbert Allen Baird on September 21, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before Elbert’s passing in 2002. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings that included Sunday School teacher, Young Women teacher, Relief Society President, Pianist, and Organist. With her husband, they served as senior missionaries to San Antonio, Texas (Spanish speaking) and Chile. They then went on to serve three missions at home, helping in the membership records department, Family History Center, and the Bishop’s Storehouse. She enjoyed her callings and missions and found comfort in serving the Lord.

Mary lived on Dixie Avenue in Layton for over 66 years, before moving to Fairfield Village in 2021.

Mom loved quilting! She made beautiful pieced quilts and wall hangings. She especially liked applique patterns. Most of her quilts were beautifully hand quilted. Her house was decorated with her quilts and she gave many away as gifts. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, playing scrabble, and, most of all, being a Mother and “Granny.”

Mary is survived by her children, Alauna Baird, Allen (April) Baird, Ellen (Scott) Bailey, Suzann Baird, Bryan Baird, MaryLou (Michael) Bailey; 18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Dixie Ward Chapel, 789 Wasatch Drive, Layton, Utah. Family and friends may gather Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. Interment will be at Layton Memorial Park.
