Barbara Butler Obituary

North Ogden - Barbara Hadley Butler, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2019 surrounded by her family both here on earth and those waiting for her on the other side of the veil.

Barbara was born on April 27, 1940 in Ogden, Utah to Robert L. and Elsie Pratt Hadley. She was the oldest of six children. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1958. In her younger years, she enjoyed the time she was able to spend travelling with her grandma Pratt.

Barbara married her eternal friend and companion, Val Dean Butler on March 15, 1962 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with 4 daughters.

Barbara worked at The Bon Marche, Hertz Rental Cars and Ben Lomond High School as a bookkeeper. While working at the high school, she especially enjoyed being able to work with the Ben Lomond Scots Band and the Drama Club. It gave her and Val the opportunity to travel to New York as chaperones and enjoy the shows on Broadway and see the sights.

Barbara also enjoyed going golfing with her husband, camping with the family and travelling. They also enjoyed driving to St. George and spending time with family there and going to Tuacahn. One of their greatest adventures was going to Holland and Ireland with Val’s siblings.  It was in Ireland, while looking out from the castle, that she saw the green hill that inspired one of her favorite hymns, ‘There is a Green Hill Far Away.’

Barbara was a valiant member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. She had a strong testimony of the gospel. She served faithfully in many positions, and even in the end, was worried about things that needed to be done to fulfill her calling.

For the past 10 years, Barbara had the opportunity to serve in the Ogden Temple with her husband. They enjoyed being able to serve and also cherished the friendships that they made. She was a great example to her daughters of the importance and blessings that come from serving in the temple.

Barbara’s greatest joy was her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and fulfilled those roles completely. She loved serving her family and being able to spend time with them. They will miss all the homemade treats she always had ready for them whenever they would visit.

Barbara is survived by her sweetheart of 57 years, Val, her daughters, Becky (Tracy) Nicholls, Lori (Rocky) Corbridge, Teri (Dan) Buttars, and Michelle (Gary) Francis, 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 brothers, Robert Hadley and Frank Hadley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, Linda Groberg and Cherilyn Christensen, and a brother Wayne Hadley.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at McKay Dee Hospital for their compassionate care.

A viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary (845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT) on Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel located at 205 East Elberta Dr., North Ogden, UT, with a viewing prior to services from 10:00 am - 10:45 am.  Interment will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery.
