Harvey Allen Godfrey

April 25, 1931 ~ October 7, 2019 (age 88)

Our devoted husband, father, grandfather and teacher, H. Allen Godfrey passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Allen was the son of Wonda William Godfrey and Hattie Eleanor Hutchings. He grew up in Ogden and Harrisville, and graduated from Weber High School.

He served a 2 ½ year mission in Holland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, followed by serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he attended BYU and graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Biology.

On Oct. 12, 1956, Allen married his sweetheart, D. Jean Bingham, in the Salt Lake Temple with Elder Spencer W. Kimball officiating. They have lived the past 58 years in the same home in Roy.

They were blessed with five wonderful children: Brent, Lisa (Kevin) Thompson, Lynette (Kevin) Jensen, Cathy (Clair) Hull, Kirk (Jill) Godfrey. 26 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren have added to their joy.

Allen was a gifted and talented teacher. He began his teaching career at Roy Jr. High School and retired from Ogden High School after teaching biology and human anatomy and physiology for 30 years. He inspired many students to pursue careers in the medical fields.

He was a life long learner and devoted much of his life to studying many subjects especially, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a respected and much-loved Gospel Doctrine teacher for many years and served well in many church callings, including a faithful home teacher, temple attender, stake high councilor and Bishopric counselor. He and his wife served together as service missionaries at the Ogden cannery.

With ever busy hands, Allen developed many talents. He was a very resourceful handyman. He grew a plentiful garden and fruit trees and kept a beautiful yard. He loved working in his wood shop and creating special wood items, such as bird houses and gifts for his grandchildren. His hands packed the family station wagon, and later, their truck and sleeper, with five children and everything they could possibly need, as they traveled on many adventures. He helped his family gain a love for nature and the great outdoors.

Allen loved his family and richly blessed the lives of many. His life of study, teaching and serving inspires his posterity to follow his legacy.
