Thomas John Broberg

Thomas John Broberg (Tom), 76, passed away on October 6, 2019 at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans home. Tom and LaDawn’s home was in North Ogden, UT. He was born October 11, 1942 in Logan, Utah to John Henry and Letty Jane Rasmussen Broberg. He has a sister, Julie Ann and brother, Carl Jed (deceased). He grew up in Cache Valley, became an Eagle scout and graduated from South Cache High School in 1960. He enjoyed sports, hunting and fishing. He started his university studies at Utah State University and then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Central Atlantic States mission, which included Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. He then finished his bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics at Utah State and graduated as a commissioned officer in the ROTC program. He entered the Air Force and went into pilot training. After pilot training he went on to serve a tour in the Vietnam war as a pilot flying the Cariboo transport plane. He didn’t talk much about the war, but one story he would tell is a time he was in the demilitarized zone of North Vietnam and just after take-off, his plane was shot down. He said that the most dangerous part of the whole ordeal were all the helicopters and people that came to rescue him. It caused more problems than it was help! Tom ended his military career as a Major and received an award of the United States Air Medal. 

Tom married LaDawn Bateson on September 27, 1969 in Logan, and they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary a little over a week before his death with a trip through Sardine canyon to see the fall leaves and drove by special places to them, in Logan.

Tom’s career path was in education, working as a teacher at the high school level teaching business classes. Later, he became a University administrator in career services and cooperative education at Utah State University, receiving the Student Services Outstanding Achievement Award (1985). He then moved on to Central Washington University and was recognized with  the Northwest Cooperative Education Association President’s award (1994-1995). He loved teaching and after retirement he substitute taught at high schools and the students loved him.

Tom loved and supported his wife and five children individually and unconditionally. He gave advice and direction specific to their needs and each have memories that have significantly impacted their lives. He was a proud parent of all of us and our accomplishments. He was a very strong man, with tremendous integrity, and had an uncanny way of giving the best advice at the most crucial of times. He had a great sense of humor that has trickled down throughout the family. It has brought lots of laughter and fun at family gatherings. All he asked for in life was love and respect, and so we gave it to him. ;) We love and will miss you Dad, until we meet again.

Tom is survived by his wife, LaDawn; children: Nicole Broberg (Annie), Erika Nolin (Jason), Jenny-Marie Morales (Omar), Jed Thomas Broberg (Maryann) and John Donald Broberg (Felisha);grandchildren: Reddington Munkberg, Matthew Jonathan Fassler (Rebecca), Ryan Leonard Nolin, Isabelle Marie Morales, Madeline Olivia Morales, Maxwell Carter Morales, Hallie Brynn Morales, Hazel Mae Morales, and a sister Julie Puzey (Paul). He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10 am on his 77th birthday, Friday, October 11, 2019 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT, 84404. Friends and family can visit prior from 8:30am-9:40am. Internment will be at the Logan City Cemetery.
