Anne Mauree Rasband Mcdonald Obituary (1931 - 2018)

Our sweet mother and grandmother, Anne Mauree Rasband McDonald passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. Anne was born to Joseph Sylvan Rasband and Annie Janett McMullin on September 7, 1931, in Heber City, Utah, the youngest of 7 children. She was an honor student and played the clarinet in band. While in high school her mother taught her to sew a dress and jacket. This led her to many years as a seamstress, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She graduated from Wasatch High School and went on to college at BYU. While she was home visiting Heber City she met her sweetheart, Hiram Smith McDonald. They were married on March 6, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple. Anne and Hiram moved to Salt Lake City where he had a job at the Deseret News. After ten years they moved to Bountiful, Utah, where they lived for close to 40 years. Eventually they added 10 children to their family, one dying in infancy. Anne was a good mother, always teaching her children to work hard and do a good job. She and Hiram loved camping, even with 9 children in a tent. They were active in church, Anne served in the Primary and Relief Society. To supplement the family income, she started her own custom drapery business, Anne's Draperies. She taught herself how to make curtains and made all her own patterns. Anne and Hiram installed draperies for years in many, many homes in Davis and Salt Lake Counties. In addition to raising 9 children and running her own business, she took care of her elderly mother for 6 years. When both her parents had passed, Anne and Hiram decided to buy her childhood home. They spent many happy years fixing up the house and collecting antiques. Their children and grandchildren have fond memories of the "white house" in Heber. Anne and Hiram served two Public Affairs missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first was to Independence, Missouri, the second to Johannesburg, South Africa. In Africa they traveled extensively and were able to visit 22 different countries. In 2004 Anne's sweetheart, Hiram, had a severe stroke which paralyzed his left side. This changed their way of life, but not their love for each other and their family. They decided to sell their houses in Heber and Bountiful and moved to Brigham City, Utah. There they lived close to their daughter Laurel. During this time, they collected and wrote family histories of ancestors, sharing those treasured stories with all their extended family. Anne took loving care of Hiram until his death in 2012. Anne was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings, her beloved Hiram and baby Randall. She is survived by her children: Eric (Michelle), Bruce (Carol), Shelley Sorenson, Von (Michelle), Jill (Rich) Humpherys, Janett (Michael) McBride, Laurel (Kent) Potter, Diane (Keith) Tippets, and David (Debbie). She leaves 32 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Anne will be missed by all! Funeral services will be as follows: Viewing on Friday, August 31st from 6:30-8:00 pm at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City. Viewing 10:00-11:15 am on September 1st in Heber City, Heber 1st Ward, 325 E. 500 N., Funeral at 11:30 am. Graveside Services at the Heber Cemetery at 1:00 pm, 700 N. 550 E.
