Clyde L Slade Obituary (1918 - 2008)

OGDEN - Clyde L. Slade, 90, passed away on June 18, 2008 of incidence due to age. He was born on March 14, 1918 in Tropic, Garfield County, Utah, the oldest of six children, to Cora Sudweeks and Elwood Lister Slade. After living in Tropic and Panguich his family moved north to Ogden where he excelled in school majoring in engineering. He met his lifelong sweetheart, Erma Alice Montgomery and they were married on June 22, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They celebrated nearly 70 years of marriage together and were rarely apart, only being separated by WWII. Clyde was a hard working husband and father, working at Hill Air Force base for 32 years, retiring as Air Terminal Manager. At the beginning of WWII he was deferred from serving in the military as his job was essential to the war effort, but in 1943, with only a couple of days notice he left for the Islands of the Pacific and was gone for two years. Clyde had a great love for his family, his cabin at Bear Lake, and Southern Utah. After retiring he spent countless hours in his orchards and gardens growing beautiful fruits, vegetables, and pine trees. He enjoyed the outdoors with boating, hunting, camping, and snowmobiling. He was always the first one there when his family needed help building, moving, or other innumerable projects. He never left until it was all completed. He was untiring and selfless while working for his family and his country. He was an active member of the Ogden Lorin Farr 6th Ward of the LDS church. He is survived by his loving wife, Erma of Ogden; three children, Paul (Jacquie) Slade of Provo, Utah; Annette (John) Alexander of Hyrum, Utah; and David (Sonja) Slade of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy (Doug) Holmes of Ogden and Carole (Jim) Dworak of St. George, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Artoise Slade, Rada Taylor, Dean Telford, daughter-in- law, Lynne Slade, great-granddaughter, Elise Virginia Steffler. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary of Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Ogden, and on Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to service. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery, where Military honors will be accorded.
