DeMar Ray Kern "Brother Nice" November 17, 1926 ~ July 25, 2014 BRIGHAM CITY - DeMar Ray Kern, 87, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Maple Springs in Brigham City. DeMar was born on November 17, 1926 in Preston ID, the son of Alfred Kern and Amy Shipley Kern. He was raised with three brothers: Reese, Earl, and Carl. DeMar graduated from Preston High School in 1944 and later from BYU in 1953. He served in the Northwestern States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in both Washington and Oregon. He later served with his wife in the Stockholm Sweden Temple Mission. He met his eternal companion, Doris Bosson, while attending BYU and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 21, 1952. They were blessed with four children: Sandra, James, Tauna, and Thomas. DeMar was a Stake Patriarch, a Temple ordinance worker and Sealer for 18 years in the Seattle WA Temple, served as District President in Cumberland, MD, Bishop's counselor, Stake Clerk, Ward Mission Leader, and he loved working with the young people of the Church. DeMar served in the US Army during WWII and spent 18 months in the Philippines. DeMar worked as an accountant in several places, ending up as Secretary/Treasurer for Pacific Storage Co. in Tacoma, WA where he retired. DeMar and Doris loved to travel and have been all over the world on trips and cruises. In his younger years, DeMar loved to fish and hunt. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Reese, Earl, and Carl. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris; children: Sandra (Brad) Hancock, Jim (Dawn) Kern, Tauna (Dan) Waddington, and Tom (Julie) Kern, 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A special thanks to the Integrity Hospice Care and Maple Springs for the kind, loving care they always showed DeMar. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Perry 1st Ward, 1290 West 2950 South, Perry, UT. Viewing Friday, August 1, 2014 6-8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E. Brigham City, UT, and Saturday 10-10:40 a.m. at the Church. Interment in Preston Cemetery.
