Dewayne "Dee" Edgar Hauenstein Obituary (1924 - 2013)

DeWayne Hauenstein BRIGHAM CITY - DeWayne "Dee" Edgar Hauenstein, 89, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2013 with his family by his side. Dee was born on May 28, 1924 in Sedro Wolley, Washington a son of Marion George and Pearl Adele Moore Hauenstein. He attended Baker Heights Elementary, graduated from Sedro Wolley High School in Washington. Dee served his country proudly in the Army during WWII. He married Pauline Sarah Burt on October 7, 1943; she passed away on September 14, 1945. Dee later married Vaudis Jennie Yates on June 26, 1946; they have been happily married for 67 years. He lived in Mt. Vernon, Washington in the early years of marriage then to logging camps in Arcata, California, and then back to Vaudis's home in Brigham City, UT in 1952. Dee enjoyed the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints; he was supportive of ward activities, scouting trips, missionary's and champion of anyone who needed help or was down on their luck. He lived his life as he felt he viewed his God would live. Dee was a patriot of the U.S. and a lifetime member of VFW and DAV. He supported many civic organizations and fundraisers including the BPOE. He was a local and long haul truck driver who often gave his road money to help families stranded on the roadside. Local bar tender who "tended" to his patrons and they became his lifelong friends. His word was his bond. He did business by a hand shake. Dee was an avid sportsman especially loving his fishing holes and deer camp. He loved his family and was never too busy to give a hug, advice or a swift-kick if deserved. He was known for his great BBQ's and especially his Peach Day cook-outs, which grew every year. He was Grandpa to many and loved by all children. Surviving are his wife: Vaudis, children: Roxanna (Jim-deceased) Tippetts, Brigham City; LaVonne "Vonnie" (Bill) Manual, Spokane; Michael (Gay) Hauenstein, So. Jordan; Gwen (Kevin) Rupp, Tremonton; Danny (Debie-deceased) Brookings, OR; and Karen Hauenstein, So. Ogden; 30 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Also brother Glen (Glenna) Hauenstein, Oroville, WA. Preceded in death by infant daughter Carol and brothers: George, Lyle, Leland and Delbert. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Brigham City 1st Ward Chapel, 236 E. 100 S., Brigham City, UT. Friends may call on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, and on Monday from 11:00 to 11:40 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery with Military Honors Accorded.
