Athleen Humpreys Toombs Click here to listen to the funeral recording. After 97 years, Athleen Humpreys Toombs left this earth "when it was time" on October 16, 2016. She arrived in Pleasant View, Utah on June 18, 1919 to Lillian Moore Humphreys and George E. Humphreys. She was soon joined by 2 brothers and 2 little sisters. Mom grew up on the farm in "PV" and spent a few early years in Ogden City. She loved school and attended Weber High. She loved to ride horses with her best buddy Izzer all over the hills on both sides of Ben Lomond and Willard Peaks. Playing "Tea For Two" and other pop classics from the 30's and 40's with her Willard buddy, Helen Jane Lemon, was always a treat for everyone. In 1936 Jack E. Toombs caught her eye and they were married September 1ST of that year. They had 3 daughters, Kathleen T. Zundel (J. Laron Zundel) North Ogden, Janice T. Twede (Darrel Twede) Bountiful and Anne Toombs (Larry Hill) Eden. Mom built a rich life around family, friends, camping, travel, the mountains, and her greatest passion, music. Hers was a life of creativity, work, play and service to others through her music. She loved working for Dr. Wheeler and Dr. Byron Naisbitt well into her 70's. Her special touch on the "ivories" brought joy to many weddings, dances and celebrations. She brought comfort to those grieving with her beautiful melodies at many funerals and memorials wherever she was needed...always a good sport and an eternal optimist. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served in many capacities but by far her most treasured was as ward organist, a calling in which she served for 75 years. Left to miss Athleen are her 3 daughters, her forever loyal sister, Helen Pettingill (Gay) of Willard, 10 Grandchildren, 36 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great -Grandchildren, her loving nieces and nephews and so many treasured friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, one sister, Lavern Soelberg, 2 brothers, Joyce Humphreys and Kenneth Humpreys, Great Grandson, parker Zundel and son in Law, J. Laron Zundel. Our family would like to thank the faithful staff at the Stoney Brook Assisted Living in Eden for the love, laughter and care they have given mom over the last 4 years; and to the residents of Stoney Brooke for the friendships she has been so lucky to have. Thanks to the Huntsville Utah Stake who embraced her and found a place for her at the piano for Stoney Brooke Sunday services as long as she could play. A huge thanks to Rhoda, Susan, Haley, Dr. Wilson and the rest of the team at Envision Hospice for their steady support for mom and our family. Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, October 21, 2016 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20th from 5 to 7 PM and Friday prior to the service from 9:45 to 10:45 AM. She will join her friends and family who have gone on before at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden. There are sure to be some great pinochle games to be had out there now that she has arrived!
