Elgin C. Stegen (Eddie) Click here to listen to Funeral Recording Harrisville - Eddie Stegen, age 90, died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, at a slumber party held in his honor. He was born December 17, 1920, the middle child of seven, to Alfred W. Stegen and Ida May Parker, in Ogden, Utah. He was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a long career with the military from the late 1930's to the early 1960's. His active duty was spent serving in New Guinea and the Philippines and earned him the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and American Campaign Medal, a World War II Victory Medal, and an American Defense Service Medal. He was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant at age 24 and was promoted to the rank of Major before retiring from the National Guard in the early 1960's. In spite of the hardships and things he encountered in his military career, he was always proud of serving his country and loved recounting his experiences. After returning from the war, and finding work, Eddie married Annette Roskelley, on June 5, 1947, in Ogden, Utah. They raised five children together. They were later divorced. As a young man and father, Eddie worked as a mechanic for the Ogden City Bus Shop and then Shepherd's Auto Service. He taught classes at Weber Academy. In 1957, he bought Shepherd's Auto Service and renamed it Stegen's Auto Part and Service. Stegen's Auto Parts was fixture, in the Ogden community for 50 years, until his retirement, in 2007, at age 86. Stegen's had such a good reputation that the chain stores would send their customers to him for things too old or unique to carry as regular stock. His advice was always free. On June 23, 1977, Eddie married his best friend, Carma W. Flinn and helped her raise her boys. He referred to her as his "good karma". She was the love of his life. They loved each other as only best friends can; richer, poorer, health and sickness. They were rarely apart; working together at the store, vacationing, shopping at the BX or playing the slots in Wendover. Carma expresses her deepest gratitude to daughter-in-law, Laura and the special staff of Life Path Hospice; Dr. John Markeson, Annette Ellsworth, RN; and Brenda Burns, CAN, for their devotion and help. Eddie is survived by his wife, Carma; his children: Steven, Gary (Leslie), Dana, Marla (Jeff Geisler), Jed, Randy (Toni) Flinn and Jason (Laura) Flinn; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Lois (Glen) Carter and sister-in-law, Lavona Stegen. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lavaun, Dean, Lee, Don and Lyle. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary Chapel, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends and family may call on Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Interment will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden, where Military Honors will be accorded.
