Faye Marie Hyland Fowers Obituary (1924 - 2015)

Faye Marie Hyland Fowers, 91 passed away on Monday October 5, 2015 from causes incident to age. Faye was born in Ogden on July 4, 1924 the fourth and youngest child of James and Rachael Marie Kidman Hyland. She was quite the "firecracker" and a true patriot, and loved that "the whole nation celebrates my birthday!" Faye attended Kanesville and Hooper Elementary Schools, graduating from Weber High School. She came from modest means and was independent at an early age, and "earned her own way". She was an accomplished seamstress. Faye met the love of her life in 7th grade when she caught the eye of Jesse Eugene Fowers. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Nov. 17, 1944. They were married for 48 years and separated temporarily by Gene's passing on March 27, 1993. Faye was first and foremost a homemaker but throughout her life had various jobs. Faye was a staff car chauffeur at DDO, worked at her sister Jessie's CafAC. in Perry for 17 years, she was a secretary at the Ogden Weber ATC. Faye was a member of the Hooper Women's Club, served on the Weber County Dairy Princess committee, and served as President of the Hooper Women's Farm Bureau. She and Gene belonged to the Utah State Young Farmers, and LeDanseurs dance club. They had lifelong friends called 'The Gang' which they associated with monthly since becoming newlyweds and as recently as last month. Faye was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many callings, but her favorites were teaching and working in the Ogden Temple. Faye loved gardening, baking and crochet. She was famous for homemade rolls and candy which she shared generously. Faye enjoyed the theatre arts, loved to travel, and spend time with her family. She and Gene traveled extensively and enjoyed camping and fishing. After Gene's passing, she continued to travel on garden tours and to Australia to visit family. Faye's greatest joy and pride was her family. She loved being called the matriarch, living up to that title. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, all of her 3 siblings; Jessie Hamson, Bernice Studebaker and Ross Hyland; her beloved husband Gene, daughter Holly and one grandson, Justin Fowers. She is survived by 3 of her children; Clarke (Luci) Fowers, Janice (Steve) Stoker, and Marie (Lon) Hansen. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and 26 soon to be 27 great-grand children. She also has many nieces and nephews that will mourn her passing. Faye made a difference in many people's lives, in lieu of flowers please pay it forward with kind acts of service and make a difference in someone else's life. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Hooper Third Ward, 5601 South 6100 West. A viewing will be held Friday at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Hooper City Cemetery.
