Harvard Huggins Reed Obituary (1932 - 2008)

Harvard Huggins Reed NORTH OGDEN - On Sunday morning, January 20th, Harvard Huggins Reed, our Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend, passed away in his home surrounded by his family. His death was the result of a fast-growing brain tumor. Harvard was born in Salt Lake City on May 30, 1932, the 3rd of 6 children, to Joseph and Ethel Reed. He married his wife Nancy Knowles Cheney on May 31, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a hard worker and loving father, counselor and friend to his wife, his 6 children and their spouses, his 23 grandchildren, and extended family members. He grew up in Salt Lake City, graduating from East High School. After graduation, he served with honor in the Army as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He remained a loyal patriot throughout his life. In 1962 he moved to Ogden working for General Electric. In 1964 he began his employment at Precision-Bilt Homes. For the past 16 years he worked as the scheduler and estimator for Hancock and Associates, retiring in October of 2007. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During his life time, he held many ward and stake positions in the church, always willing to serve where he was called. He is survived by his wife Nancy, and children Terilyn (Spencer) Mark of Layton; Jeffrey (Jamie) Reed of North Ogden; Angelique (Andrew) Paskett of Layton; Kenneth (Erin) Reed of Clearfield; Joseph (Jennifer) Reed of Plano, Texas; and Nicole (Bryan) Hepler of North Ogden; 23 grandchildren; and three brothers, Dale (Marion) Reed of Boise, Idaho; Terry (Maria) Reed of East Rochester, New York; and David (Jolynn) Reed of Mesa, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Ward Reed and his sister Claudine Gray. His life was centered around the teachings of Jesus Christ and he loved the Lord and strove to emulate Him. His greatest joy was found in his experiences with his family. He always expressed his love and appreciation for us, as well as his confidence in our abilities to live well. He loved family gatherings and always wanted to right in the middle of everything. For years he stated "I personally have the greatest neighbors and know the greatest people in the world." He loved everyone he knew and recognized the value of each individual, young and old. He was humble and often turned any attention from himself to serve others. He was a gentle, honest and honorable man of integrity at home, at work, at church and in the community. He will be greatly missed by all who know and love him. Through his example, he left a legacy for which we can strive. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 28th at 1 p.m. in the North Ogden 16th Ward Building at 205 East Elberta Drive, North Ogden. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden and 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Monday at the church, prior to the funeral. The family would like to thank our physician, Dr. Glen Biddulph, and Annette Wood and Sue Petersen of Access Hospice for their watchful and loving care.
