Hazel Mae Adams Barker
Our loving mother, grandmother, friend passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011. Hazel was born in Lovell, Wyoming on July 13, 1927 to James William Adams and Emma Goosens. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Yvonne Mowers; husband, Ross James Barker and one great-grandson, Carter Clyde Bartlett.
She attended school in Wyoming and moved to Ogden where she graduated from Weber High School and seminary in 1947. She married Ross Barker on November 20, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Hazel was blessed with a wonderful family of four boys; Ronald, Bill (Colleen), Clyde (Jaymie), Lloyd (Shelley); all living in Utah.
She was a proud grandma of 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and was excited each time they visited her.
Hazel was a member of the North Ogden 9th Ward where she served in various callings in the church.
When Hazel's children were all in school she decided to further her education where she received her Bachelors Degree from Weber State and her Masters Degree from Utah State University.
She taught the physically handicapped students at Wahlquist Jr. High School where she made an impact of the education on those who are physically challenged. She received many honors and awards in her profession; one of those was Weber School District Teacher of the Year. She received the Utah State Governor's Golden Key Award for service for the handicapped, and served as the 1st PTA President for the Utah State School for the Deaf. Hazel was instrumental in writing the Proposal for handicapped students to ride a special equipped bus for wheelchairs. She was also President of HandiTrans.
Family and Education were very important to Hazel and she was a teacher to us in both. May she be remembered as a shining example of unconditional love in this life as she graduates to the next.
