J Lowell Walker Obituary (2008)

J Lowell Walker passed away October 7, 2008 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Camilla Walker of South Weber, Utah. J Lowell was born to Leo Charles (Jake) Walker and Sarah Ardella Boren September 18, 1931 in Green River, Wyoming. He graduated from Green River High School in 1950 and was soon sent to Korea when they activated the Wyoming National Guard. He was a member of the 70th Heavy Tank Battalion/Armored 1st Cavalry Division. He served in the Korean War from 1950- 1953. Upon his return home he married Doris Elaine Hamilton of Hamburg, IA, November 7, 1953 at the home of his parents in Green River, Wyoming. To this union four children were born. Jack Lee (Camilla) Walker of South Weber, UT, Connie Lynn (Kevin) Skates of Thermopolis, WY, Barbara Elaine (Gary) Koontz of Rawlins, WY and Lori Nanette ( Patrick) Holeman of Temecula, CA. He made his home in Rawlins, WY where he was employed as a conductor on the Union Pacific Railroad, where he retired after 43 years. He was an Elder of the LDS Church. J found time for many activities; he was a member of the UTU - UP Old Timers Club, Ryan Park Ski Patrol. He and a friend bought and learned to fly a Cessna 180. He was a life member of the Rawlins ELKS Lodge #609 and VFW Post 2311. He was a past Commodore of Seminoe Boat Club, a member of the Sinclair Golf Course, Wyoming Seniors Golfers Association, and a Charter Member of Rochelle Ranch Golf Course. Since his retirement he and his wife have spent the winters at their home in the California desert at the Fountain of Youth Spa. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, his children, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sister, Delma Jean Miller, brother in law, Jim Tippetts, Uncle, Al (Donna) Walker, Aunts, Faye Wadsworth, and Helen Walker, many nephews, nieces and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd; sister in law, Christine; brother, Duane; sister, Janice Kay Tippetts and Mildred Walker. Funeral Services will be held at the Rawlins 2nd Ward Chapel, 509 East Kendrick, Rawlins, WY at 11:00 a.m. Family may gather one hour prior at the church.
