Jack W. Keyes Obituary (1926 - 2001)

UINTAH - Jack W. Keyes peacefully passed away at home and returned to his Father in Heaven after a courageous twelve-year battle with Alzheimer's on Thursday, August 9, 2001 at 74 years of age. He was born in Tooele, Utah to David M. and Elizabeth Williams Keyes on September 28th, 1926. He was raised in the town of Uintah and attended Weber County Schools. Jack proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a SeaBee and spent most of his tour of duty on the island of Okinawa. After returning from the service he attended Weber State College where he met his wife Ivy L. Kimber. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 25, 1947. Jack and Ivy were inseparable and made a great team for over 54 years. Jack served for 16 years on the Uintah Town Council where he was instrumental in securing water for the beautiful Uintah Cemetery, which will be his final resting place. Jack was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His testimony was strong and never wavered. He served in many callings and leadership positions, among his favorites were Scout Leader, Stake M-Men Leader, and Temple Worker. Jack believed that Home Teaching was one of the most important callings in the church and was a 100% Home Teacher for 50 years. His favorite Home Teaching companions were his grandsons. He retired from H.A.F.B. after 38 years. He had a unique ability to build or fix anything, especially automobiles. "Grandpa Jack" was a wonderful father and grandfather who was genuinely loved and revered by his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of Uintah; his children, Linda (John) Scott, Fruit Heights; Donald (Jackie), Connie (Brent) Nielson, Mike (Cathy), all of Uintah; Carolyn (Jason) Leavitt, California; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Don Fernelius, Vince Fernelius and one sister, Beverly Davis. He was preceded in death by his son, Bruce W. Keyes, his parents, and four brothers.
