Jessalyn Hillier Richards Obituary (1919 - 2008)

Jessalyn Hillier Richards SOUTH OGDEN - Jessalyn Hillier Richards passed away on May 2, 2008 just a few weeks before her 89th birthday. Lyn was born May 31, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Fredrick and Ruth Hillier. She grew up in Salt Lake City and Woodbridge, New Jersey. She met her soon-to-be husband, Joel Richards Jr., prior to her graduation from the University of Utah. Joel and Lyn were married on September 4, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of seven children. Lyn was known to be an excellent seamstress by friends and family. Every Christmas her children were surprised by the number of clothes she had sewn for each child. She also enjoyed gardening, reading and cooking. Lyn was an active member of the LDS Church. She served as a Relief Society President and held many other church callings. Lyn and her husband, Joel, served in the Family History Extraction Program for over 14 years. She loved family activities and participated in water and snow skiing outings. She was always a good sport and a great example of what a mother should be. She is survived by her children: five daughters, Lynda (Frank) Badger, Ogden UT, Sheryl (Steve) Bailey, Ogden UT, Valerie (Bruce) Gardner, Puyallup WA, Pamela (David) Collier, Layton UT and Debra (Bill) Bozung, Highland UT; two sons, Joel (Cathy) Richards, Salt Lake City UT and Scott (Mary) Richards, Boise ID. Lyn's posterity includes 40 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Fred, Bob and Ron Hillier and sister, Francis Erickson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Wayne and her husband of 60 years, Joel Richards Jr. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley 5th Ward located at 5735 South Crestwood Drive. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
