Leatha Hess Myers Obituary (1918 - 2009)

Leatha Hess Myers 1918 - 2009 Leatha Hess Myers, 90, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 23rd, 2009. Leatha was born on November 6th, 1918 in Marysville, Idaho to Anna Maud Earl Hess and Delbert Earl Hess. She was the seventh of nine children, and enjoyed an especially close relationship with her older sister, Beulah. Leatha married the love of her life, Neal Lemuel Myers, on January 11th, 1938 in Logan, Utah. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple on May 7th, 1959. They had two daughters, Myrna (Ray) Thompson and GeNeal (Richard) Sparks. Together they settled on a farm in Riverdale where they were always happy to share their crops with neighbors, family and friends. This generous spirit stayed with Leatha throughout her life, and she was always more than willing to give whatever anyone needed, whether it were time, money or even just friendship. She loved her family and was always supportive of all of her grandchildren in their academic, professional and even personal pursuits. She delighted in any chance she got to visit with her family and always looked forward to the next time she would get to see them. Leatha had a passion for making beautiful things. She created amazing ceramic dolls and figurines that she lovingly displayed in her home. She was an expert at the art, pouring the molding herself as well as designing and decorating the doll's costumes. Her efforts were very often rewarded with the highest marks at competitions and displays. She also used her artistic talents to create beautiful cross stitches, quilts, and tapestries. Leatha also was an excellent candy maker and her family and friends enjoyed the chocolates and treats she made at Easter and Christmas. In their free time together, Leatha and Neal loved square dancing with their group "The Quarter Promenades". Leatha loved working for the "Mountain Bell Telephone Company", where she started as an operator and moved up within the company. She was an active member of the LDS church and loved participating in activities as a member of the "Daughters of Utah Pioneers". Leatha looked forward to being reunited with her mother and father, brothers and sisters, husband, two daughters, as well as innumerable friends and acquaintances. Her surviving family and friends take great comfort in knowing Leatha is now reunited with so many whom she loved. Leatha is survived by her sister, Betty (Jack) Lampros of Ogden, Utah, eight grand children, and 10 great grandchildren. The family wishes to give sincere thanks to the nurses, aides, and caregivers at the Alta Ridge Assisted Living Center in Holladay for their devoted care of their grandmother, aunt, and friend. Graveside services will be held Friday, August 28, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th St., Ogden.
