Leota M. Smith Obituary (1922 - 2007)

Leota M. Smith ROY -- Leota M. Smith passed away Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Country Garden Home in Layton, Utah. She was born on May 4, 1922, in Logan, UT to Vernon and Ellen Montierth. She was raised in Ogden and attended Ogden city schools. She married Louis L. Smith on September 24, 1945 in Long Beach, CA. Their vows were later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. She and her sweetheart were married for 51 years; he died in 1997. She retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1972. She had been employed with the IRS for many years and had worked earlier at Hill Air Force Base, beginning in 1940. She and her husband were active with many groups and clubs, enjoying camping, fishing, golfing and rock hounding. She was active with the Golden Spike Gem and Mineralogical Society and the Ogden Union Station Museum, serving as an officer with both groups. She had been an active member of the LDS Church, holding many positions, including Primary president for several years. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Monty (Leslie) Smith, Dean Smith, Geri Rowe, and Karen (Steve) Watson; three grandchildren, Kerri Lawler, Amy Deveraux and Erin Holmes; two great-grandchildren, Adam Deveraux and Kendyl Lawler. She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Kirk Rowe; and granddaughter, Kristen Smith. The family would like to thank Country Garden Home and VistaCare Hospice for their loving care. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West where family will meet with friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
