Lettice Orton Rich Obituary (1916 - 2001)

Lettice Orton Rich NORTH OGDENa"Lettice Orton Rich, passed away on February 20, 2001 at Emeritus Estates in North Ogden. She was born on January 13, 1916 in North Ogden, Utah to Clarence Victor Orton and Mabel Randall. She married Erroll K. Rich on January 14, 1928 in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away on December 30, 1995. She has devoted a lifetime of service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North Ogden First and Twenty-First Wards, Ben Lomond and North Ogden Stakes and held many ward and stake positions. She was a faithful visiting teacher and temple ordinance worker at the Ogden Temple. She served a temple mission with her husband in 1979 to the Washington D.C. Temple. She was blessed with a great talent for writing and music. She was a piano accompanist for vocal and instrumental groups and wrote many road shows and programs. As a freelance writer, her work was published in several magazines, including the Relief Society Magazine and The Ensign. She won several contest awards in short story, poetry, article, and music composition, and was the author of several published songs. She worked as the North Ogden City Recorder for 25 years from 1952 to 1977. Lettice was a member of the First Captain of Daughters of Utah Pioneers Camp 50, member of North Ogden Book Club and was a researcher and assistant editor for the North Ogden History Book. Her husband, Erroll, parents, Clarence and Mabel R. Orton, and brothers, Max and Eldon Orton, preceded in death. She is survived by three sons and one daughter; Dennis E. and Kathryn Rich of Riverton, Stephen K. and Helen Rich of Eden, David A. and Kristina Rich of Layton, Diane R. and Brent John of Parker, Colorado. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and two sisters; Allene Atkinson of Farmington, Nona Jean Searle of Holliday, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2001 at the North Ogden Stake Center, 626 East 2600 North. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and also Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Interment will be North Ogden City Cemetery.
