North Ogden, Utah
Our beloved mother, Luanne McFarland Fortie, returned home on May 31, 2026. She was born on June 15, 1931, in Ogden, UT. Luanne lived a life defined by compassion, thoughtfulness, generosity and love. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her faith was an integral part of her life. She held many callings and was always committed to compassionate service to others.
Luanne married her eternal companion, Vaughn D. Fortie, on August 13, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Vaughn was called home on January 18, 2012.
The most cherished part of her life was her family. She was a loving mother to Mike (deceased) (Kathy) Fortie, Lynn (Susan) Fortie, Denise (Scott) Schvaneveldt. She was a grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Her heart was always full when surrounded by her family, for whom she held an immeasurable amount of love. Countless family gatherings and memories were made at her home in North Ogden, Utah, where she resided for 53 years.
In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, crocheting and knitting, traveling and camping. She found pleasure in the simple beauties of nature. She enjoyed music, both singing and playing the piano. She had a great love for animals, especially her dog companions in her later years.
After her children were raised, Luanne worked as the branch manager at First Security Bank at DDO (Defense Depot Ogden), and enjoyed the friendships made with those she came in contact with.
Luanne was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, her parents (Archibald McFarland and Drucilla Holmes), son (Michael Vaughn Fortie), and twin grandsons. She was the youngest of six children, all of whom have preceded her in death. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and selflessness that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She will be remembered for the smile she shared with everyone.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Bristol Hospice, most especially to Amanda, Bella and Julie, who showed her much love and care.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 9:30-10:30 am at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Ogden, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
