Click here to listen to Funeral Recording Lucy McMills Greenwood, 91, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011, in Rupert, Idaho, surrounded by her loving family. The viewing will be Tuesday, July 26, 6-8 pm at the Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT. The funeral will be 11 am, Wednesday, July 27, with a viewing from 9:40 - 10:40 am, at the Ogden Valley Branch for the Deaf, in South Ogden, at 5640 S. 850 E., with burial at the Salt Lake City, Cemetery. Lucy was born Nov. 24, 1919, to John and Pearl McMills, of Salt Lake City, Utah. Lucy married Virgil R. Greenwood in 1936 in the SLC Temple. Lucy was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church, and community servant. She worked tirelessly and lovingly in the service of her Heavenly Father. Lucy served many years in LDS Ogden Branch for the Deaf, where she was a trusted friend and Interpreter for 62 years; Young Women's President for 27 years, instructor and visiting teacher for the Relief Society; and served a full time mission to the Deaf, in Chicago, Illinois. Lucy loved to attend the Temple and was a Temple worker in the Ogden LDS Temple. Lucy was asked to assist with many special projects for the LDS church, including, the LDS church's first mission training center for the Deaf, special Temple projects, interpreted for General Conferences, and interpreted many LDS films into Sign Language. Not only did Lucy serve in the Deaf Branch, she also was a primary teacher in the Lomond View Ward and Ogden 8th Ward, where her children attended church services. Lucy was a true advocate for the Deaf and was among the first certified professional Interpreters for the Deaf in the Nation. She was a member of the Utah Association for the Deaf and the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, and assisted to establish the first sign language interpreter certification in the State of Utah. She served as an officer and member of the Utah Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, and was a certification evaluator and proctor, for the Utah Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf/ Interpreter Certification Board, and for the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Much of her work as interpreter was volunteer, she would often comment on how blessed she was to serve others. There was never a question of whether she should serve but rather when, where and how. She is survived by: sons Paul (Jill), Timothy (Jill), Son-In-Law Charles Chambers, daughters: Ruth Ann (Leslie deceased) Felter, Linda (Jim) Pepcorn, Jean (Lee) Thomas, and Daughter-In-Law Linda H. Greenwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sons: John, Virgil and Charles Daniel, daughter Virginia, and one Daughter- In-Law Laurel. She has 41 grandchildren, 88 great, 35 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild.
