LuJeanne Peters

–

Clinton, Utah

LuJeanne Barnett Peters, age 94, passed away on June 5, 2026 at 11:11 PM. Born the youngest of four strong-willed girls, it was only fitting that on her last earthly night she was surrounded by her family’s latest generation of strong and loving women.

LuJeanne was born on January 14, 1932 in Ogden, Utah to Andrew L. and Genevieve Barnett. As a ‘Depression Era’ baby LuJeanne was born into uncertain times. Due to her family’s own financial hardship, they were forced to move to her maternal grandparent’s home in Plain City, Utah. Although the world may have been a bleak place at the time, LuJeanne fondly remembered her childhood years on the Plain City farm surrounded by her extended family. As the years passed and life stabilized, the Barnett family left Plain City and returned to Ogden, Utah. However, moving would become a constant in LuJeanne’s story. The family lived in homes on Wilson Lane, 2nd Street and 24th Street. LuJeanne was a true Ogden girl! She took great pride in the fact that she was the great granddaughter of Louis Frederick Moench, founder of Weber College(known today as Weber State University). She often reminisced about her hometown; beautiful Ogden High(graduate of the 1949 class), begging her big sisters to let her tag along to the V-E celebrations on 25th Street, the tunnels under downtown Ogden and of course the Egyptian theater; the place where on one very fateful hot Summer day she slid into the front seat of a car next to Bob Peters and as they say, the rest was history.

Bob and LuJeanne were sealed for all time and eternity in the Logan Temple on August 2, 1950. The following January Bob began his service with the Army, where he was stationed in San Francisco, California. LuJeanne joined Bob at the Presidio in April and their oldest daughter, Krezel(Kris), was born the following September. Throughout their love story, San Francisco would always hold their heart. Those first beautiful yet challenging years set against the backdrop of the Bay. As the song says, they truly did leave their ‘Heart in San Francisco.’

In the years that followed their family grew with the birth of RuthAnne in 1954 and Greg in 1959. LuJeanne loved her three children immensely. Each of the kids brought with them their own stories, their own challenges and their own victories. LuJeanne was right there beside them as they grew. LuJeanne ensured that each of her children appreciated the written word, her love of books became their own love of books. Classic movies are where LuJeanne found so much of her own comfort and each of her kids shared this same comfort with her. After thirteen moves from California to Colorado, the Peters family finally settled in Provo, Utah in 1969. Provo is where LuJeanne and Bob would live their final years together. The years in Provo and the many memories made there would forever be cherished by LuJeanne. These years held many trials including the death of her oldest child, Kris but she would always remark on the many good times spent here and the deep, loving relationships that were made.

While in Provo, LuJeanne went to work for BYU at the Education Advisement Center. Despite having very little formal education, LuJeanne climbed the ladder in the advisement office. Her work ethic and sharp mind made her a trusted staff member and when she retired in 1997 she did so with the utmost respect of the faculty and students.

In 1989, at only 57 years old, LuJeanne became a widow. Losing Bob was a cutting heartbreak she would hold until her last days. Much like the storylines of her favorite old movies, theirs was a love story for the ages. We as a family rejoice in knowing she is with her sweetheart once again.

In 1998 LuJeanne was called to serve an LDS mission in Sydney, Australia. Serving the people of Australia would give LuJeanne a renewed purpose and the country would become yet another place where a piece of her heart would always remain. After her mission was completed she would sell her Provo home and move north to Clinton, Utah. Bob always promised he would get her back to her sisters and the move to Clinton fulfilled that wish all while also being close to RuthAnne’s family. Just with all of her previous moves she would make meaningful, lifelong friendships in her Clinton ward and neighborhood. Never being one who could sit idly by, she would find a new calling in volunteer work. She was a cherished and highly regarded volunteer at McKay Dee Hospital for many years. A role she was only forced to give up due to the COVID-19 pandemic. LuJeanne was always happy to serve in any church calling she was given. Her final calling was in the Relief Society and she truly got a kick out of serving alongside the much younger women in her ward.

Over the years LuJeanne faced many trials and heartbreaks. LuJeanne understood grief all too well, she buried not only Bob but each of her children; Kris, RuthAnne and Greg. LuJeanne cradled the pain of her oldest granddaughter Angela, when Angela’s first child, Ashleigh was born sleeping. In 2016 she lost her youngest grandson, Jesse and on the anniversary of Bob’s death in 2025, her grandson Corey passed away. A life marked by unimaginable loss and pain, she found her strength in her unwavering faith and belief in the Gospel. LuJeanne truly believed that families are forever and when her time to return home would come, her eternal family would be there with open arms and open hearts. On June 5th she finally experienced her long awaited homecoming!

94 years is an incredible amount of time for a person to live but for those of us left here, it will never feel like we had enough time. LuJeanne will be forever loved and missed. She was our greatest teacher. We will remember her always. We are the people we are today because of her. We love you!
