Mae Francis (Heath) Glynn, 98 years of age, passed away at McKay Hospital, Sunday morning 15 February 2026. She was born to James Hill and Flossie Burdine Hill, 12 August 1927 in Chandler, Oklahoma. She was the second child and only girl of eleven children. The family moved from Chandler to Crescent, Oklahoma where they resided on a farm where she grew up. She attended elementary and junior high school in Crescent. As the family increased in size so did her responsibilities, she was tasked with helping with her brothers, household chores, and much of the cooking. She often cooked whatever was on hand and would make up a recipe, which explained why she was such an excellent cook.
On 23 August 1941, at the age of 15, she married Noble Heath, they were later divorced. In 1942 they moved to Los Angeles, California where Noble had a job working as a welder in the shipyards. In 1944 she gave birth to her first child, Patricia. In 1945 Noble’s job ended and they moved back to Crescent, Oklahoma where Noble started farming. While in Crescent she gave birth to two daughters, Shirley and Gladys, and one son Larry. In 1962 she gave birth in Ogden to her son Lloyd, her last child.
In 1953 the family moved to Ogden. After a couple of years Mae decided to go to work. She worked as a window decorator for Grayson’s Dress shop, Diana Hughes, Anita’s Dress Shop, and The Bon Marche. After working those jobs for several years, she obtained employment at Marquardt Corporation and later at Volvo White. She also worked for Weber Basin Job Corp. Mae realized that to get the kind of job she wanted she needed to get a high school diploma, so she started night school and graduated from Ben Lomond High School. She later attended Weber State College. Finally, she was given an opportunity to apply for and test for a job with the State of Utah. Passing the test with a score of 99 percent, she was hired as a Job Developer with Utah Workforce Services. She then had the job that fulfilled her, she worked there for 23 years.
In 1975 she married Donnell Glynn. She began her travels with him all over the United States where she met and made lifelong friends. Their journeys in a motorhome continued until he became too ill to travel. In her 60’s she started oil painting; her paintings are scattered throughout family and friend’s homes. She continued painting into her 90’s.
From the beginning of moving from the farm to what she called “the big city” Mae made many friends, she became involved in the community, participating in a social group known as the Anytimers Club, she was active in the NAACP, the Eastern Stars, and support to the Masons. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she was very active, serving on various committees. She was dedicated to the choir for years and most of all enjoyed being with her friends. She later joined Second Baptist Church, supporting the church when and however she could while making more friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donnell, seven brothers: James, Cecil, Charles, Nathaniel, Carl, Truman and Glenn, son-in law Barry Ball, and stepdaughter Pamela Clark.
She is survived by her children Patricia Mitcham (Cozy), Shirley Ball, Gladys Martin (John), Larry Heath (Linda), and Lloyd Heath. Brothers, Carleice, Leontra , and Sherman Hill. Nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and nineteen great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Petersen Farms Assisted living for their loving care during her stay. She loved all the CNA’s, and called them her babies. On behalf of the family, may we express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for your expressions of sympathy and kindness during our bereavement.
