Naaman W Mccashland Obituary (1935 - 2015)

Our Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Naaman W McCashland (80), passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, 26 December 2015. He was surrounded by his loving family and will be sorely missed. Naaman was born on27 March 1935, the first of three red-headed sons born to Naaman Wade McCashland and Laurine Mallet Henstrom. From the time he was five years of age, Naaman was raised by a single mom and lived in Salt Lake City as he grew and matured into a young man He graduated from East High School in 1953 and attended the University of Utah and Weber State College. He served eight years in the Utah Army National Guard. In the spring of 1955, Naaman was introduced, by his brother, to a young lady by the name of Clista Bills. They started dating in October of that year and were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on 21 September 1956. This began a marriage that lasted 59+ years with eternity to come. He is the father of three very special children: Christena (deceased), Kent Naaman (Denice) McCashland and Laurie McCashland House. He felt honored to be the Grandpa of six wonderful grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Jaclyn, and Brock McCashland; Anthony, Shay Mikel (Laurial), and McKenzy (Vincent Sturgis) Kaleikini; and two GREAT grandchildren, Vincent Andrew Sturgis and Trinity Rose Carrillo. Naaman's work ethic began at the age of 10 when he was employed at a butcher shop to help support the family. At the age of 12, he moved on to the Fort Douglas Club where he caddied and learned a respect and love for the game of golf. After marriage he worked at ZCMI as a salesman and assistant buyer. He was offered, and accepted, employment with Madsen Furniture Company in Ogden where he worked for thirty-five years, the last eight years in the Salt Lake City store on Highland Drive. He retired at the turn of the century in ]anuary 2000. He spent the next eight years with his wife in constant care of their very special daughter, Christena, who had Cerebral Palsy and passed away in 2008. The Church of |esus Christ of Latter-day Saints is his choice of religion and he served his Father in Heaven in many Church callings, from secretary to president in the Stake Young Men's Mutual lmprovement Association, Ward Sunday School President, and Counselor in two Bishoprics before being called to serve as Bishop of the Ogden 48ft Ward. He loved serving the members of his ward. He served on the High Council and completed fourteen years as Stake Clerk. Naaman is survived by his wife, two children, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren with two more on the way. He is also survived by one brother, Lamoine H (Ellen) McCashland of Pocatello ID, one brother-in-law, Ralph Bills of Salt Lake City UT, two sisters-in-law, Gwen Carroll of Grand Junction CO and Tracee Starr of Salt Lake City UT as well as many, nephews, nieces and cousins whom he loved dearly. Preceding him in death were his daughter, parents, and brother, Stephen R McCashland. The family expresses sincere appreciation for all of the various physicians and staff members that have attended to Naaman during the last several years. They express deepest appreciation to the Intermountain Home Care Hospice Team for the kind and loving care that has been given to Naaman and his family during the last few months. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday January 4, 2016 at the Rock Cliff 5th Ward, 300 Iowa.
