Phylis Delilah Braegger Obituary (1931 - 2015)

Phylis Delilah Braegger passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Beehive Homes of Perry in Utah. Born August 8, 1931 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Philip and Velma Smith. The family later moved to Murray, Utah to live where she attended and graduated from Murray High School. She played the clarinet in the school band and on a school band trip to Brigham for Peach Days she met Bud Braegger. They married on August 12, 1949 in Salt Lake City Utah. Phylis and her husband started their lives together in Willard, Utah. She attended Stevens-Henager College, and in spare time helped her husband in the tavern they owned. Later they were blessed with the birth of their three children Philip, Shelly and Kim. The family later moved to Star Valley Wyoming where they bought a ranch. Phylis was never a lover of that area for the winters were just too cold for her. She worked some of the summers in the creamery making $1.00 an hour and sometimes in the town restaurant. After the death of her father-in-law the family moved back to Ogden, Utah. Phylis went to work at Cutters Laboratories until they shut down, then later at DFG in Freeport. After retirement Phylis and her husband became snowbirds going to Yuma, Arizona for the winter months. Phylis enjoyed reading, arts and crafts, doing embroidery and just enjoyed being outside in the sunshine. She did tons of canning, made jams, pickles and pickled beets from the fruits and vegetables in their garden. In her younger years she loved spending time with her kids. Reading stories to them, playing multiple games and was a pro at the game jacks. She always made bread once a week and always managed to remove the fresh cooked bread just as her kids got off the school bus so that they could have a nice warm slice with butter. She greatly valued her family and friends and was loved by all of those that knew her. She will truly be missed. She is survived by her two daughters Shelly Yingst and Kim (Bill) Kirby; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Bud and her son Philip. A viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary 845 Washington Blvd on Wednesday October 7 from 10:30 am to 11:45 followed by graveside services at noon at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park for friends and family.
