Addie Wengreen

November 4, 1928 ~ June 20, 2022 (age 93)

Addie Burrup Wengreen, 93, died Monday June 20, 2022, in Ogden, Utah. Addie was born on November 4, 1928, in Downey, Idaho. She was the fourth of five children born to Joseph Earl Burrup and Olive Vera Pratt.

On September 20, 1946, Addie married Jesse Wengreen in the Idaho Falls Temple and was married for over 60 years. They resided in Pocatello, Idaho for 14 years and then moved to Ogden in 1960.

Addie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Addie held many positions in the LDS church, including: primary teacher, secretary, mutual teacher, relief society counsel, and secretary. She especially enjoyed singing in the church choir.

She possessed many admirable characteristics, including her willingness to give freely of her time and talents and her ability to listen.

Addie’s hobbies were singing, crocheting, knitting, ceramics, making porcelain dolls, Afghans, knitting doll dresses, and playing the organ. Addie made Afghans for numerous friends as well as each member of her family, including making sweaters for her daughter’s dog. No one Addie loved ever went cold.

She had a feisty attitude which she carried on to her children and grandchildren. In her youth, twirling batons and even lighting them on fire. That feisty attitude turned competitive, and she won numerous awards for her Afghans and bowling trophies. Although, she loved out scoring her husband more than winning trophies. Addie loved working with people and worked as a Manager/Buyer at several department stores including modeling for The Bon Marche, JC Penney’s, and Dahles, all in Ogden. Addie loved it when her husband twirled her around the dance floor.

One of her favorite things were making porcelain dolls where she proudly displayed them in her home. She enjoyed going to Ogden Raptors games with her family and her son never missed a weekly Monday lunch. She spent numerous hours crocheting, painting, sharing the love of books, and Saturday movie dates with her daughters. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan and often went to the games with her husband and children, she never missed watching a game. Some of the best times was monthly game nights with her children where they played Farkle. She spent time caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She did something special with each member of her family. There was never a time that she was not involved with her family.

Addie leaves behind her five children: Connie Jo Burrup Wengreen of Ogden, Glenda (Mike) McGibbon, of Ogden, Vaneta (Chester) Stephens of North Ogden, Cherri (John) Myers of Ogden, and Steven (Connie) Wengreen of Ogden. She also leaves six grandchildren (Troy, Audra, Jason, Clayton, Clinton, and Amelia) and seven great grandchildren (Becca, Tanner, Sierra, Hunter, Titan, Adam, and Ethan). Addie is preceded in death by husband Jesse, her parents, three brothers and one sister.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Rachel, Natalia, and Lily at Bristol Hospice for caring for her.

Addie was looking forward to the day she would be reunited with her eternal companion, and she was getting a little impatient that he had not come to get her yet.

Addie’s wish has come true, to once again be with her husband Jesse who she has missed terribly. Take that competitive spirit and show the angels how to sing!
