Benita Robles Aguilar was a caring wife, mother, aunt (tia), grandmother (abuela), sister, and friend. Benita left this world on August 31, 2023, after enjoying 95 years of health and happiness.
Benita was born to Eduardo and Paula Vigil Robles on April 3, 1928, in the rural town of Seguin, Texas. Benita was preceded in death by her husband Marcario B. Aguilar, beloved daughter Pauline (Jerry) Martinez, her parents, five brothers, and one sister.
Benita is survived by her sister, Josefina Leal, and brothers, Raymond Robles, and Reyes Robles, all of whom reside in Texas. She is also survived by her children; Sara Balli, Macario (Johanna) Aguilar, Nina Ruiz, Jimmy (Sally) Aguilar, Rudy Aguilar, and Danny (Rita) Aguilar, her nephew, Luis Aguilar, and niece, Yolanda Garcia.
On January 26, 1952, Benita married the love of her life, Macario B. Aguilar. The two of them lived briefly in Michigan and San Antonio, Texas. In 1961, the couple relocated to Ogden, Utah, along with Narciso and Irene Aguilar and their two children. It was in Utah that Benita and Macario made their home and raised their seven children. The two families remained close and relied upon each other for support.
While living in Utah, Texas always remained a big part of their lives. The family traveled annually to visit extended family across the state of Texas, bringing back Texas pecans, Big Red soda, and chili peppers for family and friends in Utah. Texas and family meant everything to Benita. She was loved by her many nieces and nephews in Texas who took time to regularly call her and visit her in Utah when possible.
Benita and Macario enjoyed 66 years of marriage before Macario’s passing in 2018. They created a huge family who loved them dearly. People were always in awe when Benita told them that she had 23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Benita made a point of spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Benita loved listening to Tejano-style Mexican music, camp outs, and barbecues. She was always ready with her coin jar, eager to play a game of cards. The family will forever refer to draw poker, deuces wild as “Grandma’s game”. Benita had a witty sense of humor, and we will all miss her smile and laugh. Family get-togethers will never be the same without Benita's homemade tortillas, tamales, empanadas, and delicious menudo. May we all honor and continue the traditions bestowed upon us by Benita and think of her when we gather with our families.
Benita retired from Weber State College where she provided years of dedicated services in housing maintenance for the college dormitories. Benita attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was a devout Catholic and surrounded herself with statues and candles of the Virgin Mary and many Saints.
The family would like to offer their special thanks to Andrea Martinez, Nurse Practitioner, and all the caregivers at The Auberge Assisted Living Center who made the center feel like home for Benita these past four months. Your kindness was greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten.
