Billie Jo Smith Hurd Taylor --“Just Jo”
Clearfield—Billie Jo Taylor, 49, of 1575 S. 1000 E. passed away on February 15, 2021, at Davis Hospital in Layton. She was born April 22, 1971 in Ogden, daughter of William O. Smith and Caroline Songer Hughes Smith. She attended schools in the Layton area and graduated from Layton High in 1989. She enjoyed participating with dance groups which included The Stars and was a member of the Layton Lancelles in her senior year. She also enjoyed Lagoon as a child and into adulthood, where she would later be employed by them. Jo was always commented on her bright smile and sense of humor. She loved swimming and water activities in general. Later in her life she began crafting with wood and supplied most of us with items showing her talents and still kept all her fingers.
Jo worked at Herman’s Sports in the Layton Mall from high school until she had her first child. She served as a Head Start teacher at Bonneville High and later worked as a teacher’s aide working with challenged children at Rocky Mountain Jr. High. She loved working for Lagoon during the summers.
She married Mark Hurd on 6-22-1991; they were later divorced. She married Glenn Taylor on 6-1-1996; they were later divorced.
Jo is survived by her children, Kimberlyn Taylor (Roy), Wes Hurd (Roy); her father, William O. Smith (Clearfield); her mother, and stepfather, Caroline and Randy Edwards (Clearfield); her sisters, Carol (Allen)Edwards (West Point), Debra Skinner ,(North Platte, NE), Gina Dabney (Ogden); brothers, Richard (Emily) Vickery (Hooper), Guy (Diana) Rone (Clearfield), John Vandurmulen (Great Falls, MT). She is survived by many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and numerous friends who were always there to help. She is preceded in death by her stepmother, Marcie Smith; brother, Richard Hughes; brother, Frank Hughes.
Jo’s family would like to acknowledge Robyn Smith for the love she showed Jo and us throughout her life and her guidance for Jo’s children who handled this as soldiers.
There will be a viewing held for Jo at 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Myers Mortuary, 250 N. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah.
Jo will be cremated after and a Celebration of Her Life will be held at a later date.
