With grief we announce the unexpected passing of Brittany Jean Ferguson at the age of 43. She passed in peace at her home in Layton, Utah on Friday January 14th 2022 surrounded by her loved ones. Her health declined quickly and was overcome due to cancer. Although frustrated because of her ill health and not wanting to depart from her children and family, she stated, “my heart is full of love and forgiveness”.
Brittany was born to Joseph & Susan (Wood) Swider on the 30th of August 1978 in Ogden Utah where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Bonneville High School in 1996. She enjoyed basketball and softball in her youth. Brittany was very social and friendly, she made the most of her young years with fun activities and friends. She was also a lifelong faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and married Sean Will Ferguson on the 1st of July 1998 in the Bountiful Utah Temple. Together they created a beautiful family of five sons and one daughter. Her life was spent selflessly for her husband and children. She worked full time and attended Weber State University until her first child was born. She returned to WSU while raising a family, she also earned her CNA Certificate from Davis Technical College. Her occupations varied and best suited her when she could render love and service to others. Most recently she managed the accounting and insurance needs of a jointly owned residential remodeling business with her husband. This occupation allowed her to work from home. Her greatest priority was to be home caring for her family and beautifying her home. She made her home a haven of love, peace, and security. She enjoyed the schooling, sports, dance, and other activities of her children and gave them her full support. She was very talented at crafting, yard care, and photography. She was a lifelong student of history, loved to visit ghost towns, and rock hounding. Brittany has blessed all around her with her unconditional love, her sweetness & kindness. She loved her nieces and nephews as her own children and they all knew it, often calling her their favorite aunt. Brittany’s great niece, who will be born in a few short weeks, will be named after her. Brittany’s capacity to love was matched only by her quick wit and nearly photographic memory. She was a joy to be around, her laugh was contagious! She enjoyed giving gifts and making birthdays special for all her family. Family vacations and anniversary trips were a highlight for her each year. Enjoying time together unencumbered by daily pressures and routines, celebrating special events and making precious memories. Her faith and love for her Savior Jesus Christ was very evident in the way she lived her life. She taught her children by her example to be loving, kind, and pointed them towards our Redeemer Jesus Christ. Brittany served in many positions in the Church but enjoyed teaching children in primary the most. Our beautiful Brittany will be greatly missed but we know she’ll always be close to her family, and we will all be with her again someday!
Brittany is survived by her eternal companion, Sean Ferguson; her five sons, Will Ferguson, Stockton Ferguson, Quinn Ferguson, Jedrek Ferguson, and Easton Ferguson; and her daughter, Aubrey Ferguson all of Layton, Utah. Other survivors include her mother, Susan (David) Swider Bates of South Ogden Utah; her sister, Rebecca (Braden) Mitchell of Riverdale Utah; her brother, James (Melissa) Swider of Syracuse Utah; and all her nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph Paul Swider.
