Byron Milton Lewis, 84, passed away June 13, 2022. Byron was born in Logan, Utah on June 7, 1938. His parents were Milton Lewis and Anna Fehlman. At the age of two years old the family moved to Ogden. Byron attended Ogden City schools graduating from Ogden High School in 1957.
He married his High School sweetheart Judy Davis and they had three children, Jon, Kay and Todd.
He joined the Marines in 1956 and served nine and a half years. He started working at the Southern Pacific Railroad as a pipe fitter after his active-duty status. he then went to the Union Pacific Railroad in Salt Lake City in the same profession. He retired from that line of work.
He became involved in community organizations including the American Legion. Byron joined the Legion in 1971 serving various positions at Post 9 where he was the Commander for the 1977 to 1980 Legion years and Dept. commander for the 1983 – 1984 Legion year. Byrons impressive years of service make this his golden 50th year. In addition to these positions, he served as Sons of the American Legion Post commander and on the board of directors for the SAL. Byron also served at Boys State for 43 years in many compacities including on the Board of Directors. He also volunteered as a conductor for many years as a guide in the railroad museum. He was instrumental in getting the French boxcar brought to Ogden from Salt Lake City. He volunteered in the Boy Scouts program and was given the George Meany award for his service.
He is survived by Judy, his wife of 64 years and his children Jon, Kay and Todd. Byron also leaves behind three grandchildren, Melissa, Kyrstin and Trevor; three great-grandchildren, Ian, Damon and Eevie.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 20th and prior to the service from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd.
