Carolyn was born in Ogden, Utah on April 29th, 1943 to Leatha Malouf and Howard Montgomery Berrett. She married Alan Nicholas in 1963, she later married Elmer Vanderdoes in 1997.
Carolyn graduated from Ogden High in 1961 and later received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Weber State University. She taught Kindergarten for Ogden School District for 25 years and taught for a total of 27. After her retirement, she spent her time volunteering at the Family History Center, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and loved meeting monthly with her fellow retired teachers.
Carolyn was an avid reader, who always had multiple books going at one time. She met with a plethora of book clubs including one with her granddaughter. She loved painting ceramics and gifted her completed projects to friends and family at every possible occasion. She learned to knit and crochet from her own grandmother and spent much of her life making many handcrafted pieces that she donated to various causes. One of her greatest passions was gathering family records and recording their history. She loved to find stories and pictures of family far and wide.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various capacities throughout her lifetime. She was blessed to see both of her children and one of her grandchildren married in the temple.
She predeceased by both her parents, her husband Alan Nicholas, one of her grandchildren Sam, and her second husband Elmer Vanderdoes.
She is survived by her two daughters Jennifer (Chris) Christensen and Julie (Todd) Taylor, and her 9 grandchildren: Peter (Erika), Alex, Grayson, Jake, Alexis, Caleb, Ryker, Adam, and Caiti as well as her brother David James Berrett.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 14th from 6 – 8 pm, and Friday, July 15th from 10:40 to 11:40 am prior to the funeral service at 12 pm at Carolyn’s home ward building at 770 E 2100 N, North Ogden, Utah 84414. Service will be live streamed, to watch scroll to the bottom of Carolyn's obituary page the day of the service, the service will remain on website indefinitely.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to the Ogden School Foundation, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, the Weber County Library or a charity of your choice.
