Katy Gallegos, beloved Widow, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the age of 95. She was born November 26, 1927 in Dividend, Utah to Sotero Muniz and Catalina Gomez. She is survived by her four children; Max Gallegos, Cynthia (Dave) Miconi, Vince (Shellie) Gallegos, Tony (Susan) Gallegos. Also Surviving are six grandchildren, Daniel (Delena) Miconi, Stephanie (Stephen) Manz, Catalina Gallegos, Alex Gallegos, Jaden Gallegos, Talia “Todd” Gallegos, along with five great-grandchildren; Daniel and Rylan Miconi, and Olivia, Lilliana, and Juliette Manz. She is also survived by her siblings Sotero Muniz, and Angelina Salas. She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin Gallegos and her sister, Avelina Muniz.
She grew up in Dividend, Utah with 3 siblings. In October of 1949 she married Alvin Gallegos and they shared 64 years together. She spoke of her life truly beginning when she married her “Viejo”. They made a beautiful family together which she said were “all pieces in a quilt that fit so perfectly together as to make one great piece of art, one great piece of work”. When she was first married; she worked at Keely’s Café. She gave 23 years to Sierra Lingerie. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the bible study there.
She had a signature style, grace and beauty. She was so regal; a true matriarch of the family. She loved everyone for who they were. She made a place for everyone at her table and in her home. She always made sure everyone was fed. These aspects of her worked into everything she did. All these parts of her flowed through her hands upon all she touched. A person, a meal, a pleat in pants she ironed for you, a quilt, and numerous other sewing projects. In all those things she touched she will continue to live on.
A visitation will be held at Myers Ogden Mortuary Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 6-7 PM with a rosary beginning at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 11:15 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 514 24th St. Ogden, UT
