OGDEN - Celia Shirley Staffanson passed away on July 17, 2011. She was born in Lompoc, California on May 27, 1929 to Leland C. Staffanson and Shirley Forrest.
She graduated from Lompoc Union High School, Lompoc, CA in 1947, attended Santa Maria Jr. College, (Hancock College) and received her Bachelor of Arts and Teaching Credentials from San Jose State College. She taught two years at Franklin-McKinley Elementary in San Jose, CA, and ended her 25-year teaching carrier in the Lompoc elementary school system. Because of her work experience in public libraries in Lompoc and San Jose, she was granted a leave of absence in early 1969 to accept a one- year appointment as head librarian in Lompoc.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ, LDS, she served in many ways and touched the hearts of the youth while a seminary teacher for several years. She enjoyed music, and was a member of the Lompoc Valley Master Chorale. She moved to Ogden, Utah in September, 2001.
Celia is survived by her brothers Forrest (RoLayne) Staffanson, Ogden, UT, Bill (Carol) Staffanson, Sandy, UT, and John (Lura) Staffanson, Norco, CA, and 16 nieces and nephews and their families.
The family expresses appreciation to many close friends and Hearts for Hospice who helped in the care of Celia over the recent years of a progressive illness.
Interment is in Myers Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 North Monroe Blvd, Ogden, UT. Memorial service will be held at the Lorin Farr Stake Center, 480 Seventh Street, Ogden, UT, 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 30, 2011.
In lieu of flowers Celia would suggest the LDS Humanitarian Fund or the charity of your
choice.
