Colleen Chase Nielson
September 19, 1932 - February 3, 2019

Colleen Chase Nielson, 86, passed away peacefully with family at her side February 3, 2019 at her residence, Peachtree Assisted Living in West Haven, UT.

Colleen was born September 19, 1932 in Nephi, UT to James LeRoy “Roy” and Mary Etta “Et” Williams Chase. She was the youngest of six siblings: Byron “Barney” Chase, Veda Chase Stephensen, Reva Chase Ballow, Eldon Chase, and Rex Chase.

Colleen attended Juab High School and, at the age of 16, was married in Nephi, UT to Oren C. Nielson on June 25, 1949.

The two had two sons, Oren “Craig” Nielson (Toquerville, UT) and Kevin Charles Nielson (Jackpot, NV). From her two sons, Colleen had 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Colleen worked as a cook for the Delta Gamma Sorority, a bookkeeper for ten years at the Phoenix Institute, and as a volunteer of 16 years, accumulating over 22,000 hours, for the Foster Grandparent Program of Davis County.

In her lifetime, Colleen enjoyed reading, baking, gardening, cake-decorating, crocheting, and coloring. Most of all, she loved spending time with “her kids”. Children were her life's treasure.

Colleen is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, former husband Oren, brother-in-law Thello J. Nielson, and daughter-in-law Susan Nielson.

She is survived by her sons, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and countless “adopted grandchildren” whom she collected and loved over her years.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at PeachTree Assisted Living, the staff of Comfort Worx Hospice, the Foster Grandparent program, Wasatch Elementary, Doxey Elementary, and all of the many kids and grandkids who comforted Grandma, needed Grandma, and allowed themselves to be adopted into her heart and family. She loved you all more than anything.

Rest in peace, “Big Grandma”.
