Obituary

DALE REED SHIPP

Dale Reed Shipp was born and raised in Loa, Wayne Co., Utah on Oct. 18, 1919 to Nellie Virginia Wood and Dr. Milford Bard Shipp. His was a tragic beginning as his father was killed 2 months before his birth. His grandmother, Dr. Ellis R. Shipp came out of retirement and traveled to Loa to deliver him. He had one older brother Marion Shipp and one step-brother, Don Perks; step-sisters, Marie, LeAnna, Ellis, and JoAnn.

When the depression hit, he joined the W.P.A. While on a project, he met Ruth Henrietta Wilcock. They were married July 19, 1937. They had six children: Barbara Dail Crowther, Pocatello, Idaho, Shasta Lee Loveland (deceased), Diana Ruth Mooney, Farr West Utah, Darrel Bard Shipp (deceased), Allen Dee Shipp (deceased) and Darnell Reed (Priscilla) Shipp, St Anthony Idaho. They were sealed together as a family June 1, 1964 in the Logan Utah L.D.S Temple.

When duty called at the outbreak of WW II, he joined the Navy and served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Essex as a gunner. His rank was Seaman 1st Class. After the war he was employed as a carpenter and belonged to the carpenters union for 71 years.

Dale was a great outdoors man. His particular joy and hobby was fishing. Most family activities were camping and fishing. He gave his children, grandchildren and some great-grandchildren a fishing pole and taught them how to fish.

Part of his love for the outdoors included Scouting. He served many year as a Scout Master in Roy, Utah. During his tenure, all of his scouts (except one) became Eagle Scouts. Dale was awarded the Boy Scouts highest award for scout leaders, the Silver Beaver. He encouraged and helped his grand-sons and great grandsons earned their Eagles.

Ruth and Dale served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on an Indian Reservations in Canada. True to form, Dale organized a Boy Scouts of Canada troop. Through his efforts, The Tribal Council agreed to sponsor Boy Scouts on the reservation and kept it going after he left. Shortly after returning to the States, his beloved companion of 50 years passed away. He married Isabel Painter in 1988. They divorced in 1989. He married Zenaida (Zennie) Demaano in 1999. She has been his faithful companion since that time.
