Dennis Harper Obituary

Dennis Ray Harper, 78, of Honeyville, Utah, returned to his Heavenly Father on April 20, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.

He was the youngest child of Jack Renoldo and Mildred Adams Harper. He was born on March 19, 1946, in Brigham City, Utah, and was raised in Honeyville, where he spent most of his life raising his family.

Dennis attended Honeyville Elementary and graduated from Box Elder High School. He also attended Utah State University while working on the family farm and for Del Monte Corporation. He served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War.

He met his sweetheart, Vickie D. Woodward, while she was working at Crystal Hot Springs. They dated for four years before marrying on June 28, 1968, in the Logan LDS Temple.

Dennis worked for the Utah Department of Transportation for several years, starting as a draftsman and then advancing to building roads in preliminary engineering. He was a volunteer fireman for the Honeyville Fire Department and served as chief for several years. He retired from UDOT in 2003, but after a short period of time, the Utah Department of Natural Resources approached him to oversee the building of firebreaks and serve as logistic chief for forest fires. He loved his family, the outdoors, woodworking, and gardening.

Dennis was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings.

He is survived by his wife: Vickie; son: Michael (Jill) Harper; daughters: Patricia (Bill) Salerno and Joanna Jensen; grandchildren: Douglas Harper, Natalie Grover, Jaydin Harper, Brennan Jensen, Logan Jensen, Rykar Jensen, Shy Feustel, April Feustel, and Ciara Feustel; 5 great-grandchildren; and his sister: Jolene Critchfield.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Renoldo Harper, and his son Casey Jack Harper.

The family would like to express gratitude to Aegis Home Health and Hospice.
