Donald Criswell Obituary

Don was born on 07/19/35 to Velma and Charles Criswell. The Lord called him home on 02/17/24. Don loved the Lord, his family, friends, neighbors and pets. He especially had a soft spot for dogs and was seldom without one. He loved people in general and never met a stranger who remained a stranger for long. He had a quick, ready smile and a gentle wit, yet he never spent his humor at the expense of another. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed camping and fishing. A family cabin in the Uintas became his favorite go to place. Other pastimes included archery and gardening. Music stirred him. He was good at strumming the guitar and had a pleasant singing voice.
A skilled craftsman, Don worked construction, but for the most part was a carpenter by trade and much of his life this is how he made his living. He could build or fix just about anything, and eventually became an instructor who taught building and apartment maintenance for several years before retiring.
A Christian, his faith saw him through the storms of life. His ministry was loving and caring for others. He was a good provider, always giving so that others might have. He welcomed his father and mother in-law into our home, where he helped care for them during their final years. He had no problem opening his wallet to those who needed a hand up. Many winters found him shoveling or blowing snow from neighbors’ sidewalks and driveways. Summers he helped with yard work. His garden and fruit tree harvest was shared with family, friends and neighbors, as was his gift for building and repairing things.
Along the way, he shared his faith with those who were willing to listen. Love does that. It sparks a longing to be with those who have come into our lives and into our hearts not only in the moment, but in the hereafter as well. And so he shared. He shared that when he would someday be away from the body, he would be at home with the Lord (2 Cor 5:8). He would be present with the Lord he loves, present in God’s Kingdom. He would be truly home. He shared that faith in the Biblical Christ is the only key that opens heaven’s door. Through faith Don’s entered in.
He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his wife, Deb Criswell, children, Birch (Vanessa Holmes) Criswell, Cami (Kris Berg) Criswell, Matthew (Kristyna) Criswell, Jennifer (Tracy) Cullens, Jamie (Dennis) Garcia, brother, Darwin (Jean) McPhie, 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, extended family members, friends and neighbors. He will also be missed by our special needs border collie who we thought we were blessing by adopting her. But, she became a blessing we could never have imagined. Don was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and a great granddaughter.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Zachary Campbell and staff, Dr. Vincent Hansen, Deanna Bojanower ANP-C and staff, Dr. Tareq Harb and staff, and the IHC Hospice team who so meticulously and tenderly cared not only for Don, but for his loved ones.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
