Dora June “Dodie” Nelson Payne, 91, passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 22, 2023, in Draper, Utah.
Dodie was born to Theodore and Virginia Nelson on June 27, 1931. She was the oldest child and had two sisters, Joyce and Sherry, and a brother Douglas. Dodie was born and raised in Brigham City, Utah and graduated from Box Elder High School. She was baptized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She met her soul mate Dean Lee Payne in Brigham City, where they married on July 23, 1948. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
Dodie was full of energy and loved adventures and the outdoors. She and Dean often traveled, went camping, fishing, or hunting together. She was an avid and accomplished golfer winning many amateur golf tournaments.
As a businesswoman, she started and ran an award-winning ceramic store.
After many years living in Brigham City, Dean and Dora moved to Willard City and then to St. George. They enjoyed their retirement and their many trips to Hawaii.
Dora is survived by her three boys, Kerry Dean “Pibber” (Carma) Payne, Donn Lee (Robyn) Payne and Ted Dee (Rosalie) Payne, 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sister Sherry of Boise, ID.
Preceded in death by her husband and siblings: Joyce and Douglas.
We know that death is but a door and time is but a window and we will treasure the time we had with you, Dodie. Love lives through eternity.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Myers Mortuary 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, Utah with burial in the Brigham City Cemetery.
