Dorothy McFarland Obituary

Our beautiful and beloved mother, Dorothy Lee McFarland, slipped away peacefully in her home on June 9, 2022, after living 95 years of a full and rich life. She waited for her mansion in the sky to be complete. Dorothy was born in Texarkana, Arkansas to Ethel Lee Massey and Joseph Caltagirone. She attended Arkansas High School and graduated from Texas College for Women with a degree in dietetics, to which she'd often say didn't mean she could cook. She married Robert Adrian Goodin, whom she described as her "Greek God", on November 19, 1948. He introduced her to her greatest love, "Pitza" (as she spelled it in a letter). They were blessed with four children. Dorothy and Robert moved to Ogden, Utah in 1954 to take jobs at the Thomas Dee Memorial Hospital. Dorothy worked as Chief Dietician until retiring to become a farmer's wife. She married Forrest H. McFarland on July 15, 1975. Her mother was mortified when she saw pictures of the Southern Belle she had raised driving a tractor and feeding cows. Dorothy enjoyed a rich life of travel to Mexico each winter, Soda Springs, Idaho, in the summer and in her later years settled into her West Haven home where she could watch the alfalfa grow and keep an eye out on the lane for visitors. She was elegant, dignified, and quick witted. We loved her sense of humor and will carry her stories in our hearts forever. Mom loved the Utah Jazz, crossword and sudoku puzzles, and a good meal with family- especially the dessert.  She is survived by her children: Robert A. Goodin, Ronald D. Goodin (Erin), Joseph T. Goodin (Erlene) and Patricia Goodin (Lee Walser). She had 9 grandchildren: Trinity, Tricia, Kami, Russell, Kaycee, Talia, Parker, Melissa and Saige. She had 13 great grandchildren: Chase, Cassandra, Anthony, Malick, Zachary, Jaxin, Abigail, Kaitlyn, Austin, Waylon, Zoey, Ayla, and Jack. She was thrilled to meet her first great-great grandson, Silas John, before her passing. She loved each one of them and never forgot to recognize their birthdays.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother, Joe, and her husband, Forrest.

The family has the deepest gratitude for their brother, Robert, for his devoted care which allowed her to live to her final moments in her home. We are grateful to Everest Hospice, Shalee, Shanna, Katie and Jackie. Thank you to Dr. Mohr for his kindness in recognizing when it was time to begin comfort care.

Graveside services will be held at the West Weber Cemetery on Thursday, June 16 at 10 AM under the direction of Myer's Mortuary of Ogden.

Mom's wish for her family is that you be gracious and kind. Remember to spend time with your "Other Mother": Mother Nature. Always celebrate PIZZA FRIDAY!
